Default Convertin 8900/9000 themes for 8520/9700

Hey,

I'm a relatively new to theme building, I am always on the lookout for new themes that look great and have unique features.

I have decided to give it a go myself and obviously share with the rest of the world if good enough.

I would like to know, if possible how to convert old 8900/9000 themes so that they would work on an 8520 or 9700.

The theme I have in mind is from another developer who seems to have stopped making new ones who I will of course give credit to if I do publish.

To TAKE someone's theme and claim it as your own even if you give credit is unethical, but not possible anyways. Contact the theme developer and see if he or she will convert it for you or even possibly share their files. If not, there is the option of making your OWN from scratch, and in that case you should still give Credit to the original developer for the inspiration. FYI, Old 8900 themes can possibly work on the 9700.

sounds very shady.

If the theme has a lot of SVG work in it, it would be a lot more work to convert it than you ever want to do. If you area new builder, I would advice you to create your own - even if you are using theirs as a reference. Never take someone elses work and call it your own - but if you do get good, just remake it for other themes. In that case, I would still give credit to them for the 'idea'.

Transfering icons and backgrounds is very easy.

480x320 (9000) has icons that are 80x80.
Same for the 8900,9700, and Tour.

The 85xx devices are 52x52, so if you have the 80x80, just resize them as a batch to 52x52. Do not take the 52x52 and resize them to 80x80 because they will become distorted and be blurry.

480x320 (9000) wallpaper can not be resized easy to 480x360 (Tour, 8900, 9700, 9650) because the height in pixels is off. Same goes for 480x320 to 320x240 (85xx, 83xx). The 480x360 wall papers can be resized to 320x240 easily because they are the same ratio (just bigger/smaller)

Good luck.

I have made a theme of my own and would like to convert it from 8900 to 9000. Is there ANY way to do this in theme builder without going through the laborious icon dragging and dropping, ETC?

You can try the "import" function in Theme Builder. You will most likely have to tweak some things because it doesn't perfectly adjust for the difference in screen resolution, etc.
(I haven't gone from 8900 to 9000, but I have used it to convert from 9000 to 8900.)

Since the resolutions are different, you are going to have to do a lot or moving for icons but importing will bring a lot of the stuff over but tweaking will be required.

i make my themes for the 9000 to begin with and then import to 9700
only difference is that the home screen is 40 pixels taller so the icons will be 40px too high or low

takes 2 mins to re arrange and the rest of the theme is the same!

simple

works other way round also

no point makin from start again
