hello guys
i'm so glad you all exist, as you let my phone look pretty on the inside as well as on the outside..
but just thought i would let someone know if anyone reads that if you create an OTA/zip file theme that can be used for 8900/9600/9700, they actually DON'T work on my or my fiance's 8900. the only themes that work are the ones that are for 8900 only. so when i have bought themes off blogs in the past i've had to ask to get them converted to 8900 even though it says they can be used for them..
i think the reason may be that maybe on slightly differen't OS's to the ones America uses? i don't know but that's the only conclusion i've come up with..
you would be a GODSEND if you could work out why themes are dodgy on my phone when they are for multiple BBs!

Only 8900's that have upgraded to OS 5.0 will work when using files from the 96xx or 9700. If your fiance's 8900 is still on OS 4.6.1 it wont work and you would need files dedicated to the 8900.

That's an interesting one I haven't come across.
Theme build groups work by screen size and OS. Since the 8900 has the same screen as the 96xx & 9700 devices, as long as it's on the same OS there shouldn't be a problem. Have you only noticed this issue on .822?
Unfortunately Mobihand (who power the Crackberry theme store) group themes automatically using the method described above, so you might be SOL when ordering through them. Although you can always use the OS 4.6 version instead.

well if i use the 4.6 version, the background on the menu is just blank white, and then if i use to multi bb OTA the calling screen is the default.. but then if i just use the themes for 8900, they can be used on 9700 aswell but it's just the OTA links are seperate.. it's so confusing!!

Blackberry theme development across all devices and OS' has got to be the most confusing work I've ever done! Can be very frustrating at times...

while i must admit i always make seperate versions, i have loaded my themes to my 8900 from 9700 versions (just when testing and stuff) and while it works, the thing that is majorly different is the active call screen reverts to default, its different to create in TB to the 9700 for the active call screen so thats prob why.
to any devs thinkin `oh boy, thats a loada extra work` let me help you.
new> 8900 theme> file> import> select 9700 theme. test, adjust and export. less than half an hour, also means you can support 4.6 OS builds too then Thanked by ria__x (12-22-2010)

also in respect to the mobihand grouping things comment, thats at the developers choice, i always turn auto matching off and manually select the devices. first it leads to people always getting the right version for their phone, and (kinda more importantly) it means if a new device comes out in the size and OS you`ve made, it isnt automatically supported, that could cause major headaches all round
