Default Zoompass?

I just noticed an icon that looks to be pushed onto my BB. Anyone else have it? Can't delete it either.

I got the same icon pushed to my storm 9530 overnight. It is just a link to the download page for the app. If you don't want to use or see it, just highlight the icon, click your blackberry button and then click hide. It won't delete, but won't show up on your home screen anymore unless you click blackberry button and show all.

Default I tried it - Zoompass

Yeah I saw it and checked it out and apparently you can request money from people plus send and get money on your phone. It's pretty easy to use once you download it. It's an easy way to collect money since it uploads your contacts automatically - and works if those people you're requesting from are on bell rogers or telus. oh and fido and virgin too.

Default zoompass pushed onto my telus account

okay, here's the scoop. I e-mailed telus and their reply was:

"In response to your inquiry, the Zoompass application is pushed onto eligible Blackberry devices by RIM. Zoompass is a unique mobile payment service that allows clients to send, receive and request money quickly and securely, using a wireless device. The service comes with an optional prepaid contactless MasterCard card that allows users to make store purchases and ATM withdrawals using the funds in their Zoompass account."

I'm not really satisfied with this response, sounds like they are passing the buck onto RIM. The whole process of discovering the icon on my phone, trying to get rid of it myself, and having to call telus for help to delete it, took almost 30 minutes! I don't know about you guys, but my time is valuable!

I will be contacting RIM to see what they have to say, and if I'm not satisfied,
I'm following up my complaint with "the commissioner of complaints" for telecommunications services 1-888-221-1687

Its not worth bothering to complain. The icon is not the app, so Telus isn't making you use the service. It's just an icon that gives a link to download the app if you're interested. The icon is pushed by RIM (as it uses their BIS network to do so) but it is Telus that made the agreement with ZoomPass to use it and Telus is the one that requested the addition of that service book. Bell has also just recently started pushing the icon to their users' phones and Rogers is likely next if it hasn't already happened.

This is just like all of the other icons that Telus has pushed to your phone. It's managed via the service books. If you think you've got it bad, the American carriers typically push 12 or more such app download icons to their users phones.

If you don't like it, just hide it. Or create a Junk folder, then move all of your junk icons there, and then hide the entire folder. This is what I do. Out of sight, out of mind. And each icon only takes up a couple of bytes on your phone, so it doesn't do anything to your memory.

You're welcome to complain, but you are very unlikely to get anywhere with it and in the meantime, you'll end up wasting your time. The above "solution" is the easiest method to proceed.

That's a lot of wasted effort just for a little icon that can be hidden quite easily from your homescreen. Why don't you take 2 secs to hide it and just be done with it?

Default "Zoompass" pushed onto my telus account

You are all missing the point here. Why should I have to "hide" the icon? I never asked for it in the first place. Didn't you wonder what the "zoompass" icon was when it appeared on your phone? Seems like other people have had trouble trying to get rid of it too. If everyone complained, then maybe these companies wouldn't do things like this. "Zoompass" is connected with "Mastercard".......no thanks! You are all way too complacent.

Fine, go ahead and complain. I just told you that you wouldn't get very far with it. Oh, and by the way, I found out exactly what ZoomPass was the instant I noticed it on my phone. It also made the blogs here on CrackBerry and various other blogs about a couple of weeks back.

I didn't miss the point. I just have a life and better things to do than whine and complain about a non-issue. If people spent more time enjoying life than taking such a minor thing as an issue, we'd be a lot better off and a lot happier. We may be complacent, but at least we're happier people.

Again, it would be one thing if the service was being pushed on you, but it isn't. The icon is the equivalent to an ad and nothing more. It's the same thing as computer companies including trial versions of products on computers or including links to programs and services.

I agree to Krypto, better off just hiding it or moving it to the trash folder, and btw we are not the only victim (if you may call it) there are other hundreds and thousand TELUS users I believe that had that icon on their BB.i just moved mine to the trash folder, I am glad there hasnt been any usage or other charges on it,its only few KB, no big deal. goodluck
