Default Upgrading OS from 5.0.0.442

I've been running OS 5.0.0.442 since I received my 9700 and decided to hold out till the release of OS 6 but I'm tempted to try out .862.

I noticed the telus crackberry community is rather quiet. And was hoping to get some feedback from anyone who has recently done such an upgrade to .862, with particular reference to the battery life, and the radio. * a lot of other people have complained with bad radio but good battery life.

Hey Swifty, how's it going? There's a blackberry OS thread specifically for the 9700 in the Blackberry OS forum you might wanna check out. I'm running the same os as you but bought it with .331 I believe. The upgrade is was very good but I'm waiting to see what OS 6 will bring us if it ever arrives. Might upgrade to the os release just before .862, we'll see.

Yea there doesnt seem to be too many Telus BB users around does there....I was actually just thinking this earlier this week....My Bold works fine with .442 and I cant really b bothered with switching OS's again....meh Ill wait for 6...but knowing Telus I'll probably have a new phone b4 that ever comes out anyhow!!! lol

I ran .442 for a while, then upgraded to .680, but didn't like the new lock/standby functions, so I went back to .442.

Installed .602 a little while back to fix the long SMS thread freeze issue as it still has the "old" lock/standby functions.

No appreciable difference in radio reception or battery life, they're still both great.

Here's the latest & greatest: http://forums.crackberry.com/f146/ne...odafone-509995

.442 is the most recent "official" TELUS version, but as they say on that thread, you can install any OS to any carrier.

I have a Telus 9700 as well. However I am still running the stock OS that came with the phone last year when I got it. (.344). I have thought about upgrading a few times but have been apprehensive aboutt doing it. And I am not sure how much I would really gain anyhow. But my next upgrade will be to the Torch, 9800. I am really hoping Telus comes out with in the next few weeks. Cheers

No, I'm using 5.0.0.602 (which is an AT&T OS) because I wanted to retain the old style locking.

They obviously don't want you taking your phone (and your money) to another provider, so that's probably why they told you that, it doesn't void the warranty. I unlocked mine a couple weeks ago via Unlock Blackberry & Any Cell Phones Remotely by Code | CellUnlock.net

You can also go to berrymods.com, register and they will do it for free. Believe they have a thread going in the Unlocking forum but the site has all the information required. I had my 9700 unlocked there. Traveling to South Africa and have no idea what type of sim card or where to get it as I want to bbm people while I am there.

Well I did the upgrade and its running pretty well..granted I've lost the standby function. But battery life seems great can't really complain. I was wondering has anyone also got that lil google search bar in the browser that I've noticed other providers have built into their browsers, eg. Rogers
