Default Unlocked Blackberry 9700 works everywhere??

So i was wondering if bb 9700 *Unlocked* will work anywhere? Or is there any restrictions to network? I might be going to Dubai for a visit. Not too sure if Etisalat will support this?

Any one knows about this?

Unlocked 9700 from Rogers will get you 3G on Rogers, Etisalat networks.
Unlocked 9700 from Fido will get you 3G on Rogers, Fido, Etisalat networks.
Unlocked 9700 from Bell, Telus will get you EDGE on any Canadian network, 3G on Etisalat, 3G on Du.
Unlocked 9700 from any US store will get you 3G on most world networks except Canadian networks.

Actually, Virgin Mobile Canada, Rogers, Bell, TELUS and AT&T all carry the same version of the 9700 (Fido does not carry the 9700). An unlocked 9700 from any of these carriers will get you 3G on Etisalat and on Du; as well as 3G on any Canadian network and most places around the world. Rogers is the only Canadian carrier with an EDGE network.

I'm not too sure about the 9700 from T-Mobile USA, since they're the only North American network (besides WIND in Canada) that use the 1700/2100 bands for 3G, although you would for sure get EDGE on Etisalat and Du.

Ok, Fubaz got that a little wrong...

Rogers/Bell/Telus BB 9700 are all the same and all get 3G on all major Canadian carriers (only exception to this is WIND as WIND uses the same bands as TMobile in the US, so they will only get an EDGE connection on a carrier like WIND). They will also all get 3G access anywhere in the world where there is a 3G network. If there is no 3G network, then they will connect on EDGE. The only exception is certain locations in China and various other countries where they may have CDMA access only. But generally speaking the Bold 9700 from any of the three major carriers will work pretty much anywhere in the world if unlocked.

So the ultimate answer to your question is that your phone will work while in Dubai. The only potential problem that could happen is if Dubai decides to ban BlackBerry services again, in which case the phone will work, but your browsing/email, etc capabilities might not. But I think that's all been sorted out and shouldn't be a big risk anymore.
