Default The truth after tax on how much you'll really be billed?

I'm basically on the blackberry plan that includes 1GB data, and the voice thing. I'm paying somewhat between $95 and $121 when it says $87/month regularly. Sometimes I feel like I'm being ripped off. Why is telus like that? Also, in 3 years, I'm going to be with wind or public mobile, or virgin's monthly non-contract term. I'm getting sick of shoveling money away.

I don't know about Canada, but in the USA, wireless taxes are ridiculous! ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. Somewhere along the lines of 20% of my bill is supposedly taxes. Here if you work for certain employers that use a particular carrier, that carrier will give you a 15-20% discount off your monthly bill. My employer does this and the 18% I save covers only the taxes on my lines... I'm not complaining about the extra help, but I will never understand for the life of me why taxes have to be so dang high on wireless services.

Have you actually looked at your bill to figure out why it's higher than expected? The only reason mine ever goes above the cost of the plan + HST is if I send SMS to people who aren't on my list of faves. If yours is higher than expected, it's because you're using things that aren't built into your plan. If that's the case, then you'll have the same problem on all carriers.

As a heads up, my plan is the $65 BB Choice plan and with taxes, it comes to ~$73-74 (haven't seen the effect of the HST yet). There are no system access fees on this plan, so it's just the cost of the plan and the tax. This month, my bill is higher because I sent and received text messages from some people (not normally the case).

I'm on the same plan, but as to why the loyalty package was added, I don't know. It's costing me an extra $10. Also, I have unlimited SMS, it's included in the plan as I had either double minutes or unlimited SMS to choose from.

In Canada the HST will make no difference as we have been paying 8% PST and 5% GST for a total of 13%. With the inception of HST 13% you will only pay it and not GST and PST

For example:
Prior to July 1
Charges: $100.00
PST 8%.: $8.00
GST 5%: $5.00
TOTAL: $113.00

After July 1
Charges: $100.00
HST 13%.: $13.00
TOTAL: $113.00

Krypto is right, your extra charges are likely for doing things outside your plan. Go over you bill with a fine tooth comb.

Actually, HST can make a difference, but that's only because there were some parts of the bill that only got charged GST, while other parts got charged both taxes (depending on your plan). But the difference wouldn't be more than a dollar or so. With the Clear Choice plans, that shouldn't be a problem.

Still, it amazes me how often people don't look at all the details of their bills. I've found a couple of extra charges that I've had reversed in the past, but generally speaking, its bang on. Yet my boyfriend constantly complains to me about how high his bill with Rogers is. Well, what does he expect when he goes over his minutes or uses 411 on his cell phone?
