Default Tips on buying new (or used?) Torch on eBay?

My current Storm 2 is dying, and my Telus contract is up for renewal Jun 2011, about 6 months after it seems the new Storm 3 will arrive in Canada. I want to keep my current plan as it has unlimited data, so my thought is to buy a Torch off eBay just to last the next 18 months. I looked into an early renewal or a buyout but Loyalty & Retention says if I do that I will lose my unlimited data.

Any comments or guidance on the points below will be appreciated :

1) Is eBay the right way to go?
2) If it is, any tips? Have bought off eBay before, but never a cell
3) My assumption is I should go with new due to the moving parts of a slider and I've read of people having problems with wobble - does this make sense?

To be honest, the cost savings aren't great on a Torch right now - say $50-$100 on a new one. But still ... And I could save $150 or so on a used one.

TIA - R.

Ebay tips: better not to buy a used one, and only buy electronics from sellers with high positive feedback within North America, preferably your own country.
I would check craigslist, but make SURE you meet the seller at a store for your carrier to be sure it's not stolen.
As far as getting a torch, if that's what you want get one. but if it's only for a couple months, a 9700 might be a lot cheaper.
Lastly, if your retention dept says you'll lose your unlimited data if you upgrade now, doesn't that mean you'll lose unlimiited date when you upgrade later on?

As the torch is a GSM device you would lose your unlimited data as you would have to switch plans compatible with the new network.

The Torch isn't only a GSM device. You are right that he would need to change his data plan to something non unlimited. Telus doesn't offer unlimited data plans on their HSPA network.

He will lose his unlimited plan. I did. The next question that needs to be answered is if he buys an unlocked device, will it work on the network? Telus may not provide a new SIM card (the card in his Storm is only for international calling) for an unlocked device.
