Default Is there a way to cancel and avoid the full cost of the ETF?

I really want to switch over to wind mobile, I just need to know if there's the right person to talk to that could easily terminate a contract without having to pay $540 for the remaining two years. I would hate to pay that much.

$740 to cancel a 3 year, $540 for a two year and $420 for a 1 year. I just don't want to pay a freakin' ransom, that's all.

Good news... Sort of, I've never heard of any canadian telco's charging more than $20/month so that should be only $480 for 2 years. Bad news, it's a contract. If you don't like contracts, don't sign them.

I know of only one acceptable way: to have so many problems with a carrier's network that staying with them is pointless, and it's still at their discretion. Otherwise it's up to your ability to sweet-talk the reps.

Convince them that you're moving to a city with no telus coverage. This is the only way to avoid the termination fee. (aside from Telus changing the terms of the contract which would make it voidable for 30 or 45 days after the change)

Another option is to call wind mobile and see if they have any incentives for switching. I know 1 or 2 of the new companies will credit your new account with 100 or 200 $ if you switch.

What? Isn't it $20/month or $400 total? That's what my buddy said when he switched.

How long ago was that? It's hefty now.

That credit won't apply to telus and telus covers pretty much all of canada and since I'm in a situation where moving won't do squat, it's a ransom to cancel and no point tricking themm

From what I have heard in the past month, Telus' cancellation policy is still the same at $20/month with a minimum of $100. Data chargebacks if data removed within 1 year of $200.

Man the more I read these forums the more I feel U.S carriers really really rip you off. First there's the insanely huge prices of the plan ( I have a plan on Orange RO which gives me roughly the same things as a 150$ U.S carrier plan, but I pay 8,33 euros for it. Weird).

Secondly, you can't terminate a contract ?! LOL.
I can terminate for example my contract anytime I want, no "ransom". I only have to pay the carrier some money in case I bought a phone from them at a reduced price, in which case I have to pay the difference between what I paid and the full price of the phone, that's all.

Telus Mobility operates in Canada not in the United States.

The max cancellation fee is $400 after the first year. It goes down in $20 increments after 20 months. This was a new policy instituted this year.

It has since been changed again for anyone renewing after Nov 21. The new cancellation fee will be no more than the subsidy you received on your handset, plus a $50 fee. It goes down every month by a the proportion on your subsidy divided by the contract term.

What I can't figure out is why people don't just find people to take over their contract. If you are willing to give a phone to someone for free to get them to take over your contract, you have a pretty good chance of succeeding. And it's entirely legit. Telus is typically fine with you doing this so long as you bring in someone else.
