| | telus tour or curve 8530
okay folks, i guess i cant wait longer i need to upgrade my phone to a better one. I probably can do it in July and i would have to renew contract and i would NOT be doing that.
I have two options or shoud i wait?
Tour or Curve 8530
Tour has international Roaming -
Curve has none.
Curve has WIFI (I have unlimited data plan already for 2 more years)
Your suggestions please?

If the international roaming isn't necessary, then the big difference is the screen resolution (better on Tour) and camera flash (8530 has none). That said, I was in the same position and opted for the 8530. No regrets, it's a great phone and a lot better (at least for me) than the reviews seemed to suggest. Personally, I was concerned about the trackball - I know Telus hasn't had as bad an experience with this as Verizon's early release Tours, but I didn't like the idea of a trackball that couldn't be removed and cleaned easily, i.e, without dismantling the phone & voiding the warranty. Of course, there's a thread here showing a clever method of cleaning a Tour trackball with thin strips of paper, but I prefer the trackpad.

I would personally say neither, get the Bold 9700. But between the two, the Curve2 has WiFi, OpenGL (apparently), app memory's the same between both..Trackpad - if you like that better than a trackball (huge deciding factor for me), but in the end it's really personal preference. My girlfriend had the Pearl, went the Curve2 and said she'd never touch a trackball again. Her cousin has the Tour and swears by it, never had any issues. Also, as pointed out above, Tour is World Edition, Curve2 isn't.
It's really whatever you're into.

I was debating between the Tour, Bold 9700 and Curve 8530.
What sold me on the Curve 8530 was the fact that it was so light, had Wifi and the price was much better then the others. The fact that there is no flash on the Curve was not a big deal for me but I understand how for some it could be a deal breaker. I cannot stress how much I absolutely love the trackpad. I had a Storm, obviously no trackpad, and before that a Pearl with the trackball. I would never go back to the trackball for anything. The trackpad has a much more sleek look to it IMO!
But ultimately it is up to you. Just weigh the pros and cons of both as it pertains to you, take into account what others have to say if you like and decide from there. Go to the store even and check them both out. See which feels better in your hand etc.

hey folks,
Thanks a lot for your suggestions and help, really appreciated.
The thing is i myself wanted BOLD but if i go to bold, this means i go to a newer network, which means i will not be getting unlimited data and many other things i have in my plan right now.
As for tour and curve, i did check out curve, i think its not bad a phone at all. And about the flash lol i never used it on my current phone, so i do not think that is a biggie. The only few things i am worried about is software, speed and screen resolution.
Is this same for both tour and curve?
I am planning to keep my new handset for @least 2 year (until my contract)

Speed is great. I have no issues with waiting for the phone to catch up to what I want it to do.
The screen resolution for me is perfect however it is slightly lower then the Tour.

Also, I think the Telus Curve2 has a higher software than their Tour. I know the Curve2 comes stock with 5.0, I think you have to install a leak to get 5.0 on the Tour.

Compared to the 8330 I have no idea I never owned one or even had a chance to play around with one before. I have read on here how the keyboard is slightly different but that is a given with every device in a line up of devices. Obviously the screen resolution is better as well. As for major changes... I am not the best to comment on that!!! Check out the BlackBerry Curve 8520/8530 forum. There is defiantly a post [or 2] comparing the 8330 and 8530.
The Curve 8530 does come with 5.0 and I do believe that Glitch is correct about having to install a leak to get 5.0 on the Tour.

As a heads up if you don't want to lose your unlimited data plan... do you really need it? Check your data usage and I can pretty much guarantee you don't use more than 200MB. And you can't tether with it, so... you're paying ~$30/month for unlimited data when you barely use it.
I finally gave up my unlimited data plan and went to a clear choice plan. I still use the same amount of data, but now I can finally tether if I want to.
The upgrade to the Bold 9700 and the new network may actually end up being worth it in the long run. Just check into some of the other features of the new network - I know it isn't as good if you travel to the US, but that's all (and that may be temporary).

Its not only the roaming i believe, reading from the comments i think they charge 30 cents for text messages to USA? and i send around 500 Plus texts every month and i pay nothing for that now. And yes data is not an issue i hardly go over 50 mb , the maximum i went was 88mb, and that was also due to radio streaming. Apart from that i have no issue in getting bold, i think its a solid phone.
Do you think telus can give me exact same plan as i have now for the BOLD?

You are welcome j8330!
You might be able to keep the same plan going with the Bold but that is defiantly something you should check out through Telus beforehand.

Not for the Bold, but talk to them... if you've been with them for a while, they may be able to do something to try to approximately match what you have now. It won't be the same, but you may be able to sort it out.
And yeah, you're right, $0.30 per text in the US for now (from what I've read). But that should change fairly soon, and you can likely add on a temporary plan if you intend to travel to the US for an extended period of time. If you're in the US regularly, it might be best to stay away from the HSPA network for the moment. Otherwise...

yes megan with tour & curve its 100 percent that i will be given the same plan. I talked to them. But as i move to new network. They will be changing the plan as it will be on a newer network.
Btw krypto, apart from Texting charges anything else i need to be aware off?
Will i still get the same minutes and same plan . as in this is what i have, you probably will have an idea if there is anything better wid the new HSPA network.
I will be calling them as well. but for that to happen i need to have an HOUR free dedicated just to them !!
So my plan .
200 Day time.
Unlimited even & weekend start @ 6
unlimited incomming
unlimited data , unlimited texting
my 5 nation wide.
caller id voice mail and all that.
i LOVE the texting part, US & CANADA free and guess what international is just 10 Cents !!!
