Default Telus social plan 45 + data usage

I just got the BB Bold 9700 on the $45 Telus social plan and was curious about a few data-related things.

First off, when I was purchasing the phone @ Best Buy and the associate was explaining to me the conditions of the plan, I asked if the Wi-Fi symbol appeared on the corner of the bb screen, if that meant that I could access the internet and no data charges would incur (b/c I'd be on wi-fi, technically) and he said "yes.. you're accessing internet via wi-fi then.."

Now, I'm a little confused. It seems to me that the symbol is almost always there.. I hope I don't sound silly or stupid, but does that wi-fi symbol actually mean that I'm in a wi-fi zone and can access the browser w/out getting charged for data usage, or is it a pure coincidence that wherever I go there just happens to be a wi-fi zone?

I know this question is kind of vague.. but I've only had the phone for a day or so.. I don't want ANY overage charges since I'm paying enough as it is.

Thoughts?

Well i have a similar plan and with this plan u can only use things like Facebook with your data.. even if you try to use the browser without Wi-Fi it wont work because you dont actually have a data plan, you only have data for the social things.. Also when your phone is connected to Wi-Fi it will say your network name on top of the time.

The WiFi symbol will always be there in gray scale. When you are connected to a WiFi network, it will become more vibrant and clear. You will be able to tell the difference after you see it for the first time. Also, as the above poster stated, you will be able to see the name of the wifi network in a few places on your berry to confirm the connection.

If you go to manage connections, you can actually turn of your WiFi connection. This will save you a lot of battery life. Whenever I'm in a wifi zone ill turn it on and use it if i need it.

If you got the social plan, I'm pretty sure you don't have access to the browser without using wifi. So you will not be charged any overage fee's

I'm on the exact same plan and I called Telus to doublecheck with them when I got it..

If you're connected via WiFi, you can browse the internet. If you are not (toggle WiFi connection off), then you can't access the internet. If you try to, it'll say something along the lines of "This is only available on a WiFi service" and then you can press the back button and be done with it. It won't charge you if you accidentally try to get in the browser without data because it won't go through.

Even if you're not on WiFi, you can still access BBM, Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, and Twitter.. whatever your social plain includes.

Thanks for the info. One more Q - how do I send a calendar invite to someone on a social plan?

Thanks
