Default Telus Roaming Data

Just got a message from TELUS stating that starting April 11th, roaming data will be charged at per 20KB now, instead of per 1KB.

It is indeed international. And what it means is that now, instead of being rounded up to the next KB, it'll be rounded up to the next 20KB (so if you use 15.5KB, you'll now be charged for 20KB rather than 16KB).

Does anyone know what counts as one session?

For example, if my data is turned on in the US, and I receive an email that is 3KB, am I billed for 20KB? What if I receive 10 emails spread out throughout the day - each at 3KB - will I be charged for 30KB or for 200KB?

No, what it should do is follow the current billing method, which would be based on your billing cycle. So if you recieved 10 emails @ 3KB each throughout the day and you were in the US for just one day that month, you would get charged for 40KB total (as 40KB is the next 20KB increment from the 30KB actually sent).

Ahh, they're all like that. My boyfriend's sister and her husband are on Rogers with two dumbphones and her contract had ended. They decided to change the plan they were on for something cheaper and the customer service agent signed them up for another 3 year contract without giving her any new phones. This was also after she repeatedly asked to ensure that they would not need a new contract. After multiple calls and requests to speak with a manager, they still hadn't spoken with one after 2 weeks.

And my boyfriend, also on Rogers with a dumbphone keeps getting extra charges on his bill. His bill is just as high as mine, even though he does not have a data plan and his plan is actually $30/month cheaper than mine. He's planning on buying out his contract and moving to Telus and getting a BlackBerry.

And just to show that Telus can provide better service, my brother was going down to the US regularly for work purposes and had a lot of roaming charges. Telus actually called him to say that he was getting a lot of roaming charges and they offered him a much better deal so that he wasn't having to pay as much. He's essentially cut his bill in half, especially on months when he heads down to the US.

I guess with all of that, I can't really complain too much about small things like this.
