Default Telus release date for Pearl 9100 - any news?

Obviously the previously rumoured May 6th date for Telus didn't happen.

My business partner is dead set that the only thing that will replace his 8130 is the new Pearl 3G aka Pearl 9100.

Does anyone have any NEWS on its Telus release date?

No news, but if Virgin Mobile is picking it up, I'd expect to hear something relatively soon (by relatively soon, it could take a month or so, but...). My guess is that Telus will be offering it.

Oh no, Telus is definitely carrying it. I believe they'll be offering the black and pink versions.
I was wondering if anyone had heard any dates.

One thing I learned today via my dealer: Telus has put out a bulletin that anyone with a Pearl 8130 whose contract expires by April 2011 can renew now and get a Pearl Flip 8230 for $0.
So, sounds like they're clearing their 8230 stock… another sign that the next-gen Pearl is coming "soon."

How do you know that Telus is definitely carrying it? Even dealers can be mistaken if/when head office changes their minds about things. I'm fairly confident that Telus will indeed be getting it, but it has not yet been announced, and unless you've seen internal documents that show it will be available, it's still only supposition. Never say definitely until you have the actual proof available (and not just from your dealer) because you just might end up jinxing it.

Just remember, some of the carriers in the US have just recently decided not to carry it, which has surprised a lot of people, especially given the level of excitment we saw at WES over it. There were a lot of expectations that these carriers would carry it.

Still, I'd say give it another month or so and then we will likely start hearing things.

Hi Krypto,
I know you've provided good info on here on many occasions, but you must have missed this one. It happens!

Here's the BGR article:
Telus and Rogers announce BlackBerry Pearl 3G availability « Boy Genius Report

And then here's the actual release from Telus:
Home | Media | TELUS

Here's how their release starts:
'April 26, 2010

TELUS to offer new BlackBerry Pearl 3G smartphone in May

Pink version only available in Canada from TELUS, on the country's biggest and fastest 3G+ network

Toronto, ON – TELUS will offer its clients the smallest Blackberry smartphone ever starting in May. Running on Canada's biggest and fastest 3G+ network, the new BlackBerry Pearl™ 3G will be available from TELUS in either black or pink (only at TELUS).

Oh that's pretty cool that it's on there already!

But I only see the Rogers versions, and not Telus. Maybe I didn't look hard enough...

I do like Rogers' colours though.

If you can see the Telus ones on there, can you post the link please? Thanks!

Steve, I might some good news for you.

You can actually activate SureType on your 9700!
Go to the Options app, then Language and Text Input.
In the 2nd box "Input Language" click the button that says Show Text Input Options. In Input Options, check the box that says Predictive Input and voila! you should now have your SureType back -- and with a full Qwerty keyboard to boot!

I'm giving those directions based on one of my people's 8530s as I have deleted the cods for this from my 9700. I hope it's the same on the 9700!

elite1, sorry then, that's my bad. I was at WES then and missed most of the news for the Canadian carriers. We heard lots about AT&T, Sprint and Verizon, but not much about our carriers here.

So, on that basis, I know Rogers does have them (or they are supposed to although apparently its not as easy to find one as you'd think) so I'd expect more info in 3 weeks. Telus typically has a more stringent testing process, so they're likely just finalizing things now.

Lol... I actually thought I pulled another such mistake on another forum (this time with regards to an OS version being leaked or official), but then sure enough, another user backed me up and confirmed I wasn't wrong. I've been busy finishing up my thesis, plus I'm starting a new job, so I haven't had as much time to sit down and keep up to date on all the good stuff.

As to location, I'm in the same area as you. Don't know how exact you're being though as many people post Vancouver but really mean the GVRD.

I work right Downtown close to the West End, and I live in the Steveston area of Richmond. Et toi?

Kind of the opposite... I'm on the Westside of Vancouver, and work in Delta. Tunnel traffic sucks - not a fan of the counterflow lane.
