Question Telus GPS

Hey all, I have a BlackBerry 8230 from Telus and the GPS is disabled.

I'm thinking about buying the new Bold 9900/9930 and I'm just wondering if they still disable GPS on all their BlackBerries. Does anyone have working GPS? (Not just inaccurate cell tower trilateration).

Thanks!

TELUS has always had their GPS working properly especially when you're on the move. Google Maps app on BlackBerrys can pinpoint where you're located to + or - 5m these days.

Actually that's not true. My Telus BlackBerry 8230 has it's GPS disabled with every application other than Telus Navigator. And I don't wish to pay 10 dollars a month for Telus Navigator so it essentially has no GPS. It's good to hear that they've stopped that practice.

When I got my 8330, I did the fix to change the IP or whatever to get the GPS working better. I found it here (on Crackberry). Just search for "GPS fix". It was a little complicated, but it worked great.

I remember doing similar to my Storm 9530 on Telus back when I got it in the first few months of it's release and it really did help a lot.

Is there something similar for the HSPA phones? I remember using CDMA workshop to accomplish it and changing the IP addresses hard-coded in the firmware of the device. Would love to have this question answered as I deal with this problem also, although my issue might be slightly twisted given I'm using an unlocked Rogers Torch on Telus, so that might be part of my problem. (although the only problem I have with this phone on Telus)!

But I've also had other Telus Torch customers tell me the same, even with latest firmware and phones originally branded, so not sure what to believe. Anyone have any other insights?

GPS works fine on my Torch. Google and Blackberry maps show 3 m accuracy and the GPS logging software I have tracks just fine. The old Storm issue was a programing problem, which was resolved a long time ago.

I have a Telus 8330 and the GPS has never worked on it from day one. I tried the fix that's described on the forum but I can't get any of the software to communicate with my phone. Any ideaas on how to get the SPC that's needed to enable GPS?

Telus used to diable the GPS module on the phone. Buying the Telus Navigator for $10/month enables it but only as long as you are paying the $10/month.
