Default Roaming texts?

I've been with Telus for the past 2 years and have unlimited texting on my plan. Those past two years I've travelled to the US frequently and texted frequently and not been charged for roaming. My past two trips in Dec 2011 and Jan 2012 have suddenly resulted in roaming charges for texts.

Did something change?

Texts have always been charged on HSPA (sim card network), but it used to be free on CDMA. They aligned the CDMA billing system so it charges for roaming texts in the US as well. I sure miss free texting abroad...I used to take advantage of it in Mexico too.

And the worst part about TELUS is that they charge you for incoming texts while roaming, not just outgoing like with most carriers.
