Default Re-negotiating

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck yet with negotiating perks when signing onto the new network?

I am approaching the last 6 months of my contract and would consider switching over to the new network, but I would prefer to get some extras for everything that I will be losing. I am mostly interested in something like unlimited texting and some free long distance min.

Just wondering if Telus has budged on their "NO NEGOTIATING" policy since the new network went live?

You're likely asking a lot. They should be able to throw in things like 50 bonus minutes and free caller ID, but I can pretty much guarantee you'll have no luck with things like unlimited texting or long distance minutes (unless you already have a long distance plan with them for your cell phone).

Well you should call Telus and see about their rention deals they offer you. I got free texting and a cheap plan and data compared to what they offer to new customers. Check that out before abandoning Telus.

I just had several options show up on MyTelus for 1,2 and 3 year contracts. I am 6 months away from my current contract ending. I'm considering switching from my Curve 8330 on CDMA to the Bold 9700 on HSPA, depending on what they offer me on a 3 yr contract.

What is everyone's experience with HSPA now that it's a few months old? Have the kinks been ironed out?

I dont think that I will abondon Telus. I've been a customer with them for over 7 years and not once have I asked for anything free. I thought I would try and see but I remember people saying that nothing was being offerered on the new network regardless if they were new customers, or had been with Telus for years. I'm just hoping they have losened up a little.

I dont think its a lot to ask for some free LD minutes and free texting.

Depending on the plan your on. I'm on a retention plan and they told me to move on to the HSPA network that I can't carry over my plan. If you were to stay on the CDMA they would throw you 100 - 150 mins, caller ID, forwarding, waiting, and unlimited text, free calling after 6, and voicemail 10, once again thats on the CDMA network. My yearly contract expires in August but they told me I can look at my options in three months.

If you actually think about it though, that is a lot.

Let's say 100 LD Minutes is what, $10 bucks a month? and free unlimited texting is $15, I believe.

That's $25 x 12 (1 year) = $300 x 3 (3 year term) = $900.

That's $900 dollars you're getting for free, costing them...and frankly, saving $900 is a LOT.

Also, don't consider yourself a saint because you never asked for anything for free, in all reality no one should be asking for anything for free unless someone either a) changed their contract without permission or b) really messed up their bill.

And finally, if you don't think it's a lot...why not just pay for it then?

Glitch zero why would you not want something for free Telus already rips us off signing us up for 3 year terns nd doesn't Give us credit toward hand set upgrades. Also not allowing us to transfer our loyalty plans to new network just so they can pay it off quicker.

What do you mean they don't give you credit towards handset upgrades? I've always gotten handset upgrades at the discounted prices, so long as I'm willing to sign on for another 3 year contract.

So sign up for a 2 or 1 year, black market. You decide to sign into a 3 year term, they don't break your fingers and force your signature.

Also, I've also been offered discounts on upgrading as early as 9 months into a 3 year term. Granted it's ony like $25-$50, but that's still something.

I guess I'm not greedy when it comes to cell service, I would like to think I'm among a majority that doesn't lie on the floor kicking and screaming until big Momma Telus gives me my way.

And they don't allow the loyalty plan transfers usually because those plans don't even exist anymore. I picked a plan in August (that wasn't a promotional plan) and it's already gone to make room for "Clear Cut Pricing" or whatever. So if I change plans / NETWORKS, it's gone. None of these old plans were put into the new networks system.

First of all, those are the prices they CHARGE for the features, that doesnt actually mean those are the prices it COSTS Telus. If that were the case then there would be no profit made in the equation.

Second of all, I wouldn't pay for the features either way so it still isnt a loss to them, however, it could be perceived as good customer service seeing as how in less than 12 months from now I will be up for a new contract. With Telus showing good face and offering me free features for 12 months, that gives me incentive to want to sign with them for another 1,2 or 3 years.

Thirdly, I never considered myself a saint, I merely was trying to point out that I don't abuse Telus's customer services and LR offers.

You clearly have a view on the subject, and it makes me wonder if you have some kind of personal interest in the company?

I suppose you think it's ok for oil/gas company's to keep raising the prices of fuel because they feel the need for bigger profits too?

You have nothing to lose by trying!

Although I have yet to buy a Blackberry and currently use an older Motorola V262 phone, I have the following freebies from Telus:

50 Bonus minutes / month
Voicemail 10- 3 Yrs Free
Messaging 250 - 3 Yrs Free

I have been enjoying these freebies for about a year now. I have not had a contract with Telus for over almost 2 years!

They have told me they will extend them for the life of whatever I contract I sign up for.

Here's the kicker: I have been a Telus customer for almost 18 years with the same number!

When talking to an agent, get transferred to the Customer Loyalty department. These are the people that can make things happen for you!

The only personal interest I have in the company is it's the only one in Canada that hasn't tried to **** me over on my bill yet, and they make my cellphone work.

No, I don't. Telus hasn't raised prices for either of those things, and if you wouldn't pay for them regardless, why give them to you? Just to have in case?

I hate how people keep expecting companies to give them freebies. Don't expect it. They may give it or they may not. But ultimately, they have no reason to give it.

My opinion is always its a free world. You don't like the deal you're offered, you're always welcome to try out one of the other alternatives (e.g. another carrier). And if you don't like what they have to offer either, well then maybe you just expect too much. And if you don't like the customer service the other carriers provide, then you need to weigh the advantages versus the disadvantages and determine which is more valuable.

GlitchZero, thanks for maintaining a little sanity here.

Actually, they do have a reason. It's to keep you as a Telus customer. If I called Telus to resign and they refused to give me something better than an off the shelf price... I'd leave. I may as well be on the Rogers network at that point, which has more coverage and an EDGE network to run the HTC HD2 on

To the OP... I was talking to Telus 2 days ago and they said the freebies are able to be carried onto the HSPA network. I have free package 15, 100LD free minutes, free my 5 nationwide, free Telus-Telus, bonus 300 minutes, etc. etc. It is possible to get freebies and they are NOT unreasonable to ask for.

Bottom line... call retentions. I think Telus has the best customer service around, and I'm sure you'll be happy with the result.
