Default Phone switch - 9550 to 9900

I still have 14 months left in my 3-yr contract with Telus but I'm getting tired of my BB 9550 (Storm 2). I have an opportunity to purchase a new Bold 9900 from a friend because she switch to the iPhone.

If I buy her 9900, do I have to tell Telus I'm now using a new device or can I simply take my SIM card and pop it in the new phone? What about the balance "owing" on my current device? Will I still have to pay off the "remaining balance" for my 9550?

Any advice on how to switch to the new device would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Im pretty sure you can just pop the sim card in and it will tranfer everything over. Test it out. Ask her to put your Sim card in.

the 9550 is a cdma phone where the 9900 is a gsm, you may have to change your plan depending on the service rep to talk to.

aside from that, they shouldn't charge you for an upgrade on the phone as you already have it and not buying it from telus directly.

is the 9900 on telus already? if not you may need to unlock it

You would just have to bring the 9900 to any Telus store and buy a SIM card for it and pay the $25 equipment swap fee. Your contract, plan, and remaining balance owing ($140) would remain unchanged. Hope that helps.

exactly what Leviathan said. Your SIM card in your Storm 2 from telus is only for INTL Roaming.

Thanks for all the help. I had never thought about the CDMA vs GSM switch nor the existing SIM card would not work in the new phone.
