So I have the new Google Maps that is supposed to support GPS now (at least it does on Verizon). Will this fix make it work? My GPS is fine for BBMaps and Poynt, but doesn't do anything for Google Maps or WeatherBug.

Edit: Decided to try it, but the memory address it gives in the tutorial is for a different phone because I only get an error that it fails to read from it. Read through the first three or four pages and couldn't find one for the Storm. If somebody has it, let me know.

Thanks for this fix. I just did it on two 8330 phones and now have GPS working fine with google maps 3.0.2 on both of them. Great job whoever found this.

I created a CrackBerry account just to say thanks for this GPS fix. FYI - I received an error using QPST to write back to my phone (critical error; writing has stopped) but everything seems to be working OK after the reboot, especially the GPS (sweet).

I have a BB 8330 from Alltel in Tampa Bay Area. I could not get BBMaps to work. Per forum posts, I activated TeleNav for the 30 day trial and immediately canceled it. BBmaps worked until the next morning. Then I got the same "cannot get GPS lock" message or a never ending "searching for satellites." I could not get the uniCDMA memory dump to get the MSl/SPC or whatever that code is. Out of curiosity, I forged ahead with QPST and managed to get connected to my phone. I used 000000 as the SPC and was able to read from my phone. I plugged in the Alltel data as follows on the GPSone tab:

Alltel: (use this for USCC) (I have no idea what USCC is)
PDE IP Address = 205.142.19.100
PDE Port Number = 8888
PDE Transport = IP
Position Calculation = Mobile

I checked all the capabilities on the left of the GPSone tab and did a "write to phone" and got the error message as write was ending. Having read that this is not a problem I waited for the reboot of the phone. I closed QPST and re-opened it and the data above was still in the phone. I went outdoors to try it and it did not work. I nearly panicked because I could not make a phone call either. Then I discovered the RADIO was off. Turned it on and phone and GPS worked great (12 satellites). For the acid test I did a battery pull and it still worked. I thought all was well with the world. The next morning GPS does not work again and the settings are still in the phone memory according to QPST. I did not turn off the phone overnight as I never do.

I re-activated TeleNAV at the risk of $9.99 charge (I'll probably have to fight with Alltel after I cancel again in 5 minutes) and I got 11 satellites in 4 or 5 seconds and BB Maps works again.

After a battery pull I get "cannot get GPS lock" each time I try to start BB Maps Navigation for 4 or 5 tries. Now all I get is "Searching for Satellites" and eventual "cannot get GPS lock."

Anyone with any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help and the great advice found here.

Jay

Hurray, first of all thank you for those that have put this tutorial together. The tutorial here (MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service) seems to have a bit more information specific to the 8330 Curve. The memory location listed on the howardforums tutorial doesn't work.

At first I tried using the CDMA universe program in windows vista, but it would blue screen any time I tried to access my BB through it.

Then I tried a machine running XP, and it was able to read the phone no problem, but would not let me access the memory. Following the tutorial in the pdf, it says to change the ports from 4&5 to anything 1-4, then trying again. Apparently the program doesn't like to use port 5. Go figure. It worked.

The rest of the process was very easy, I used Hex Workshop to open the file made by the first program, and searched for the 6 digit password.

Opened up the QPST program, put in the password and bingo. Tabbed over to the GPS settings and set it all up.

My GPS now locks on to 9 satellites within 10 seconds, it is raining outside, very, very cloudy and I am inside.

No love on the 8350i curve, but I'm assuming that it's because it is an iden phone. I can't ever get the phone to show up in uniCDMA. Ports are right and everything, but it always says phone not connected.

Anyway to make this work on the iden phones? My GPS is pretty intermittent. Sometimes it connects in a couple of minutes, sometimes it never connects.
