Non-telus HSPA-compatible phones?
Hi, I recently purchased a Telus Bold 9700, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me of any older phones that would be compatible on telus's new network? i want to have a cheap "bagger" phone capable of texting/calling for the purpose of being able to quickly put the SIM card out and use in situtations i wouldnt want to bring the bold in for fear of being stolen/destroyed (concerts, for example). Any specific makes/models anyone knows will DEFINETLY work on the HSPA network? Again, CHEAP,(so probly not blackberry
) models, something i can get off ebay used for as little as possible. Thanks!

That website is not very accurate. It says my Storm CDMA will work on their network, but doesn't specify CDMA or HSPA...
It's not just testing for HSPA compatibility, it's testing for everything, but its only testing for BlackBerry devices from what I saw.---

Okay, well, that's not true. In fact, I've had a Rogers BlackBerry 9000 on the Telus network since the network launched back in November. You cannot use Rogers phones or any other providers phones on Telus' CDMA network, however you can use any unlocked HSDPA device on Telus' new HSDPA network.

Not on the Telus HSPA network. I'm pretty sure that even the GSM capable phones are only capable of connecting at 2G (EDGE) speeds, and given that the new HSPA network from Telus or Bell is not backwards compatible with 2G (EDGE), it wouldn't be able to work on the new network.
The BB Bold 9000 is compatible, as well as the Bold 9700, but at this point in time, that's about all for BlackBerry devices. On Twitter: k_r_y_p_t_o - 04-28-2010, 10:57 AM #10

Basically the only HSPA BBs you can use on Telus are the Bold 9000, and the Bold 9700. That's about it from what I can remember.

Correct. And at this point, I think only the Bold 9000 and 9700 are 3G capable at this moment in time (8900 is EDGE, Curve is EDGE... There is the upcoming Pearl 3G though which will work so long as it's from AT&T, Rogers, Bell or something like that).
