Depends on when Telus installs the HSPA network in Manitoba. The iPhone requires the HSPA network to work with Telus.

this seems as good a place as any to voice my opinion..

I know exactly how you feel. It's kind of ridiculous when you look at the available devices here in Manitoba. I know all this HSPA network stuff that we have to wait for, but today they told me they expect it at the earliest at the end of this year. But knowing Telus here in Manitoba, who knows really...

I didn't even notice that the iPhone wasn't available with Telus! I guess I should never assume anything while still living in Manitoba, we seem to be the very last place they'll start caring about. Just look at the variety of devices they have on their website for Manitoba compared to say, Quebec. I just want a nice phone, I don't even care if i pay a little more. I guess i'm being selfish though..

Rogers on the other hand...

Rogers can use the iPhone because it was already a GSM network.

Telus and Bell were not GSM carriers until they added to their network (less than a year ago if you remember correctly). Whine and complain and spout off all you want, but fact of the matter is, nothing will change until they get the new network set up and running (and fully tested).

Oh don't get me wrong, I completely understand that we have to wait and it'll be worth it in the end. I was just frustrated that I can get the phone I want (Pearl 3G) in Quebec, where I go to school, but I wouldn't be able to use it in Manitoba yet, where I come home for vacations.

Sometimes, it just feels good to whine and complain a little bit I wasn't expecting to change anything with my complaining.

Actually, you can already get the iPhone 3GS in BC. And the iPhone 4 will supposedly be available on July 30th, not August 30th (i.e. this Friday).

Hspa is already available within the city of Winnipeg.
However if one were to try and access the network outside the city (such as in birdshill) there would be no reception.
Technically you could purchase an Iphone from another province (with a family member's address) and simply get it transferred over.
However, since they haven't launched it here yet, they don't guarantee that all of winnipeg is covered.. Telus would take no responsibility if the service was crap in Winnipeg... So JGK03, you could still get your Pearl but if you go outside the city you'd be s.o.l...
I'm looking forward to their new network.. I just wish I could keep all my sweet perks from being with them for so long.

that's some very good news for me as i hardly ever leave the city. I don't want to sound like a ******, but do you have a source for that information? When I called only a few days ago, they told me the phone would get no service at all if I brought it back to winnipeg. But I guess it makes sense that they would tell me that if your information is correct. i would just want to double check somehow before I make any decisions.

I've called the telus Loyalty and Retention department and talked with one of the guys there. also: (CoverageÂ*|Â* TELUS Mobility - move the map over to manitoba.)
My friend has the 9700 (A Hspa device) from Edmonton on the Telus network. When he drove from edmonton, his phone was dead all through Saskatchewan and only worked when he entered winnipeg...
On the map above, birdshill seems to be covered too!

That's all I got for you.. some info and some speculations on my part

I just wanted to mention, you won't be able to have a manitoba number with your Hspa device.
I'm assuming you're cool with that seeing as you'll be living out of province for most of the year anyways..
But assuming you had wanted a MB number with your 3g device, that'll be a no go..
All the best buddy, let me know how it works out!

On a side note: Do you already have a device with telus, and if so which one? I'm in the market for a used blackberry on the telus (cdma) network. If you do, pm me!
