Default i think Telus plans bite !!!!

Does anyone feel like me?
I just feel Telus is lacking in the creative rate plans. I know not every plan, will suit every user perfectly.
They always seem to be reactive rather than proactive.

I feel ( i know) I have a pretty good deal going on right now:
-200 mins, but doubled to 400 ( family plan with minute sharing)
-free eve/wknd starting at 6pm
-500 mb data
-free incoming calls
-free telus to telus
-free family calling with 500 mins long distance
-free voice mail 10
- free caller id

all for $45 plus the system access fee / taxes

Of course if I want to renew and get a new phone, they want me to change plans, which will cost more money and less perks.

Advice?

Keep hastling them as if you switch you may not get a great of a deal. However if they kinda force you to change plans, take what they offer you and call to other service providers CS and see if they can do any better.

Usually as long as you renew for another three years you can talk them into letting you keep the majority of the special features you have on your plan. I was once told by Telus that they can't budge very much on device prices but they can do a lot with plans.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info, it just seems that last time I renewed they just kept throwing stuff at me, I just kept quiet and accepted it all.
This time they seemed not as generous and prices are a little more.

I have a wife and 1 son on plans too. It just adds up quickly. I probably wouldn't complain as much if it were just my phone on the account I had to pay for.

Thanks again, Merry Christmas

Telus retention has changed a lot in the last year. They no longer give out free features to all customers on renewals. You may get one or two, but they want most customers on in-market plans and not special deals. If you have a sweet deal right now, don't expect that you will be able to keep it upon renewal. You may get something better than a new customer, but it won't be like the past...the gravy train appears to be over, for now at least.

If you haven't renewed already get the Student 55 plan and ask them to give you Caller ID for free too. You'd lose the Telus-Telus and Free Incoming and you'd move from 400 to 200 mins, but you'd gain Fave 10, Unlimited Text, get 1GB of data instead of 500MB and keep the other perks like 6pm nights/weekends. Not perfect, but it's better than most other data plans in Canada.
Also, for what it's worth, you could probably keep your current rate plan if you stick with CDMA (Style/ Curve 8530); Telus will only make you change your plan if you switch to an HSPA phone.

I hope you love your phone. If you want to keep your plan you're stuck with it. Its my understanding that they cannot make you change your plan or make you renew if you don't want to. However, If you need a new phone they will make you sign a new contract to get it at a discounted price. You'd be wise to buy the phone flat out and add it to your current plan. Its a hefty sum all at once but a fraction of cost in the long run. Also, you'll find the perks become better and better nearing the end of your contract.
