Hey Guys, i had a question for you guys and any response is appreciated.

I Currently have a smartphone with telus and i have 2 years left on my contract. But i want to upgrade to a blackberry, and the other tricky part is i want to do this without re-signing a contract.

So heres my plan:

Buy a New BB off of someone and then pay the 10$ fee online to switch the phone over to my current plan and THEN get a new data plan so that i could use the BB and all its abilities.

I was looking at the BB Curve 8530 or maybe one of the older Curves 8330 possibly.

SO would this plan off mine work correctly or would i encounter problems ?

Suggestions/advice is Welcome.

Yeah that's exactly what I did, I was in the exact same situation. Two years left, just took my brother's old BB and did the switch.

The online device switch didn't work for me. It costs $25 to do it over the phone, but once I told them i tried to do it online and that it didn't work, they only charged me the $10 fee.

Look into just getting a data add on. I have a fantastic super plan 15 and so i added a $25 data plan (comes with 500mb). There's no other add on that's cheaper than that unfortunately, unless you want one of those $15 ones like social networking add on and stuff. Which I did initially, but with a Blackberry you really don't want to limit yourself i found lol.

I'm in Manitoba by the way, not sure if it's different anywhere else.

do not get the 8330. call telus and ask them if they will offer u discount on a new smarthphone. Someone said they got a $200 discount, for something similar to ur situation.

if you can get that $200 discount then getting a phone off Telus would make sense I guess. Usually it's available after a year of your contract is done, no sooner.

If for some reason you don't get that discount, try looking on eBay. I'm pretty sure you can get a bold 9700 or something better than the Curve 8530 for a similar price (around $350).

i only have a few weeks left till a year is done, then i'm gonna try and get the discount as well. I'm on my brothers very oooolldddd pearl lol.
