Default Do You Find Telus "That Bad"?

So i know with every phone carrier, some people are gonna have problems, others not. What i am wondering is, from an overall perspective, do you really hate Telus that much?

I have had my ups and downs with Telus, however, in the end they have always treated me right. I think it really comes down to how much you pay them a month to determine how nice they are to you.

In the aspect of ratings i would rate Telus from My Experiences (CDMA Network):

8/10 For Coverage (including amount of dropped calls)
8/10 For Billing (fixes) and L&R
6/10 For Network Perks (fail with lack of MMS)
8/10 For Phone Selection
2/10 For Cost of Plans (It's still Canada right)
4/10 For Selection of Plans
6.5/10 For Regular (not escalated to L&R) Customer Service
3/10 For Employees Actually Knowing What is Going On at the company
2/10 For Speed of Network Upgrades
1/10 For Advertising (Just thought i'd throw that in there because the animal ads are getting annoying 10 years later)

Therefore i give Telus an Overall Score of: 48.5/100

However i still believe Telus has an overall edge on Rogers and Bell, but that's uneducated mostly because it's only what i hear, i've been with telus for close to 15 years now and never tried another carrier.

They have been ok to us but I don't make a fuss unless my phone isn't working. RIM is my issue, 4 blackberry's in 18 months due to bad quality. I've been on CDMA and currently on the new HSPA with the 9700. So far, it's been the best experience. The plans surely need to come down in price, even $5 or $10 less. I would use those savings to get extra services.

I haven ever had any issues with Telus. I love their ad's and so does my little girl! She dances to them all the time and loves the animals especially.
Coverage is a hella lot better then Rogers IMO. That being said where I am originally from Rogers does not have cell service; Bell f'ed up my fiancees account a million times and Telus has caused no issues. They even credited my account when we moved a few years ago when using our cell as a modem for the laptop on the road. We didn't have to hassle them or anything.
Billing... Never an issue.
Phone selection is perfect for me. The prices on the other hand could be lower as with the prices for the plans but I am sure that will come with time with regards to their new plans.
They defiantly could put out upgrades for the phones more often that is for sure!
Like the previous post I never make a fuss unless I have issues with my phone which is next to never.

Yeah, Rogers coverage blows, and they don't mind closing your account, adding an ETF, and shipping it off to Collections to rape your wallet a little harder.

Bell is pretty meh. Seems desperate for customers. Coverage is obviously pretty good as it's exactly the same as Telus.

Phone selection could be better I guess, but overall not bad. The lack of MMS on CDMA really sucks though, I still don't know WHY they do that only to BB's, I could do it on my Telus Keybo.

I dunno. I like them. The lesser of 3 evils, I guess.

Telus is great compared to the others, the only problem is that if they come out with new phones every 6-8 months they should come up with a trade in program or some how to move up to the new phones.

agreed, but Telus is very rare to be the one to make the jump like that.... Referbs just never work as good as brand new, and going 1.5 to 2 years min before getting almost any break on the phone is crazy. I go through a phone about once a year, mostly because i am the poor version of an early adopter, on a student budget if i want to travel and buy toys...

Normally Id say Telus is great...they've always been good 2 me what with credits and all, but since i bought the 9700 Ive already had 2 snd it back and its still not done - I still dont have a new phone and its been ovr a week....every other time Ive gotten phones from them its been here in 2-3 days tops....now Im gettin the run around about where my phone is and they cant tell me why mine doesnt work anymore....Ive learned more and gotten better info from people here then them.....So right now I say Telus SUCKS ***!!!!! However, if my phone shows up between now n Monday AND I still get a month of free service i may change my tune!! LoL

I'm on Bell but I haven't heard anything really bad, though My mom and my sister are both on telus and my sister keeps on getting overage charges, even though she called and asked which plan is best for her.

I like Telus, their customer service is not as bad at rogers aka (robbers).but the plan prices are very high, but its not only them, also their L&R deprt is good and they do wana keep you as a cleint.I wish they woud go GSM sometime soon, then it will rock, but over all its an ok company,we canadians got only 3 choices too choose from anyways, and are having one of the highest cellphone rates in the world.but its all good, staying with TELUS is much better then robbers, ooops sorry, rogers.
Cheeerz all :d

They did go GSM. Their 3G+ network is HSPA+, which is a GSM variant. It uses SIM cards to keep the phones active.

48.5? thats a fail dude...

If Telus is that bad... then leave... I personally would NOT stay with a company if i gave it a failing score.

Go to rogers and see how you rate them.

I'm a Telus customer in Winnipeg and although I'm satisfied, Telus definitely has some downsides that people in Manitoba need to be aware of. For one, there is no 3G connectivity outside of the perimeter. It's digital only. I can always tell when I hit SK (driving West) because my phone starts buzzing. Likewise when I'm back in city limits. Further to that, I consistently drop every call walking around in my office building in downtown Winnipeg. Telus said it was because they can't guarantee their service in office buildings away from windows.

The other big negative is Telus' lack of support for updating phones. Now I'm savy enough to install other carriers' OSs on my phone, but it's incomprehensible that the official Storm OS is something like 4.7.122 (or maybe .140). Either way, it's lightyears behind.

On the positive side, their student 50 plan (that they handed out liberally) is awesome.

With rumours of Shaw's LTE network, and given I already have Shaw HD and internet, I might be jumping ship in 18 months.

The official Storm is 5.0.0.419 now.

I seriously doubt Shaw is going to do anything, personally. If they do their coverage is only going to be Toronto / Lakeshore, Winnipeg / Surrounding, just like WIND, which I find is totally useless if you go ANYWHERE. Just my opinion though.

Looks like they did update to the 5.0 series. I wonder when that happened. It must have been fairly recently. Oh well. I've been running that version for a while now.

Shaw's network will start out limited like you suggested, but I doubt it will stay that way.... either way, I think my lesson learned is to buy a phone contract free (or at least on a one year contract).
