Default Bold 9700 from Roger's to Telus...

Hi to all!

I just got a used unlocked 9700 originally from Roger's and now, working great with Telus... The only thing is the phone will not register on Telus BIS so I can't create my email account... I tried registering trough "Host Routing Tables" a few times but nothing happens... Been searching trough the forums without luck... This one seems more advanced so I'll take a chance here!!

Thanks in advance!

Give Rogers a call - the PIN might not be released from Rogers yet (meaning you wouldn't be able to set your PIN up on TELUS' BIS). If that doesn't help, call TELUS, their BB support team is pretty good.

Well... Telus won't help me! They say they can't offer the support for data connectivity since the phone is from Roger's!! Anyone can help a bit more!

Thanks!

I fogrot to mention one thing... My current plan is on a HTC Hero... Do I need a specific plan for BBs?

You do. In order to get email access and BlackBerry internet browser access, you need access to the BIS network, which requires a BlackBerry data plan.

If that still doesn't help, you may need to contact the original seller of the phone and have them contact Rogers to release the PIN. Telus' hands are tied if the PIN is still linked to Rogers.

Yes - this is one of the perks of having a BIS data plan - unlike other plans they are completely backwards compatible. I have one TELUS account that has a BIS plan on it - the SIM goes back and forth between 3 devices: a TELUS iPhone, a Bold 9700 and an LG Chocolate. I have a BIS plan and the data works on all devices.

A normal data plan will work on the iPhone and the LG, but not the BlackBerry. The only difference with having a BIS Data plan is the server provisioning. There is a special setting that is enabled to give you access to the BIS servers - other data plans do not have this enabled. I believe it is like this as TELUS has to pay RIM a "user" fee for every extra BIS client - so they only give BIS access to those with BB plans by default.

So in short - get a BIS data plan - it will be backwards compatible with your other devices - whereas non BlackBerry data plans are not.

Good info wxmancanada! And even better to get the confirmation from someone who uses it. I was thinking about that myself and wondering how it would work. Good info indeed.
