Default Blackberry Bold 9650 for Telus?

Does anyone know if the bold 3/tour 2 is going to be released by Telus? I'm dying to make the jump from the Tour 9630!

There has been no indication that device will even hit Telus. Given the fact the push they have for GSM devices now, I'd not be surprised if they decide never to pick it up.

Edit: Checked around a bit just to see, I do have some reasons to think it may actually show up there but no promises.

With the 9700 and 9650 so similar in specs, it's possible that we may never see the 9650 appear on Telus. It's different with carriers like Verizon since they don't currently have an active network that supports the 9700.

Would love to see it, but I have a feeling it probably won't be coming to Telus. They don't seem all that interested in the CDMA network anymore. They also already have a 9700 Bold, with a good chance the 9800 Bold coming as well...they're not gonna want to throw a 9650 into the mix to further confuse the consumer.

Yes, but there are some areas in Canada with no (or very limited) HSPA service (e.g. Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Western Ontario), so there is still a need for CDMA phones on the Telus network, especially for it's business clientele (which is right up the BlackBerry alley). This isn't to say that Telus will be getting the 9650 for certain, but it certainly provides reason to think it might.

Bla1ze had a reason to edit his post, and trust me, if he did, it's for good reason. Like he said, there is no guarantee at this point, but given that Verizon just released the 9650, I'd be willing to guess that if Telus will be getting it, we'll likely hear something within the next month (that seems to be the usual way this progresses - Verizon gets a phone, then Telus and/or Bell usually get it a month or so later).

i talked to a few telus reps and i'm told that telus won't be phasing out the CDMA network for a while yet. they said that because the network is still a work in progress, telus will probably still sell phones that are CDMA until they have the new network up and running for most of the country as opposed to just the most heavily populated areas. i assume that it means that the 9650 will eventually make its way here, but it may just take a while.

That makes sense with what I figured and heard as well.

The 9630 was discontinued so this could either be a sign its coming or a sign CDMA BlackBerry's are done for on Telus.

With the 9700 and the 9650 being so similar I doubt it would come to Telus, most likely Telus is waiting for the 9800 Torch.

Still waiting ... Too bad we can't just buy a 9650 off ebay and activate it on Telus. That would solve our waiting problems!

it's unlikely that Telus is holding out on the 9650 and waiting for the 9800 instead as the 9800 will be running on the new HSPA network while the 9650 will still run on the CDMA network. it would be unwise for Telus not to adopt the 9650 since the majority of Canada (outside of the major cities) still does not have adequate, if any coverage from the HSPA network.
