8900 from Rogers going over to TELUS.

Hi all,

I currently own a Rogers Branded 8900.

I have a friend in need of a BlackBerry and he is on the TELUS network, he does not need the e-mail access or any other data through wireless.

Would it work if he just wants to use it to talk/SMS and as a PDA?

Also since I work at TELUS I find the situation a bit weird because NOWHERE in my spec sheets it would explicitly say what happens when you have a non-3G GSM phone... which is weird.

It will not work on Telus.

Their 3g network is not backwards compatible with 2g/EDGE/GPRS

Sort of correct.

The reason you can't use it on Telus is that Telus uses a 3G/3G+(HSPA) only network-they have no 2G. The 8900 only has a 2G radio with no 3G radio.

Since Telus has no 2G network you can't use a 2g-only phone on it
