Default Will tmobile pay my etf from another company?

Like the title says, I'm interested in moving to tmobile from vzw because I'm fed up with BB and I want the nexus. I've read tmobile will pay up to 200 bucks for the etf in certain states. I'm located in California if it matters.

This is a long standing rumor. Some smaller carriers used to pay ETFs (Qwest, most notably, when they were launching their wireless) but that stopped many years ago.

You all obviously don't work for tmobile. I know for a fact tmobile has done this... Here's a link. Switching to T-Mobile USA and they may pay your ETF(in Ohio &Kentucky) - mobile news now -cell phone blog - Mobile News Now

Pay your ETF and sign a two yr. deal w/ them? Shady business. I love it!

I have seen some independent dealers offer this (Authorized Resellers) for various carriers. Of course, the contract you sign may have additional stipulations beyond a corporate-owned store. YMMV, but not unheard-of.

If that were the case then that company would go outta business in no time paying ETFs for every unhappy customer. I've never heard of that. Let me know how it turns out for you though. I'm curious.

I don't work for T-Mobile, but I know enough about T-Mobile and their policies to know that you have a snowball's change in **** of getting T-Mobile to pay off your ETF from Big Red.

I actually do work for T-Mobile, and there is no record of that promo in T-Mobile's internal system. this leads me to believe that it never actually made it to market or it was a third party dealer offering the promo.

Please do not make assumptions on my employment when all you have to go on is a rumor website.

Like others have said, you would have the best luck with a third party dealer. I had a friend switch from sprint to verizon and they paid his ETF from sprint. But that was at Wireless Giant, so I'm sure it was their thing and not an official verizon offer

The whole concept is ridiculous. No carrier is going to open this Pandora's Box. The carriers are all in a cartel and have conspired to hold hands on this ETF nonsense. Personally, I've never agreed that carriers should be allowed to charge ETFs. The concept is anti-consumer and arguably violates U.S. anti-trust laws. The FCC has even announced that they intend to review this whole idea and potentially eliminate it ... hopefully they'll eventually get around to doing that.

With all that said, if carriers started getting into the act of absorbing ETFs, it would snowball and the policy of carriers being able to enforce ETFs would quickly die.

I'm not against the idea of carriers getting rid of ETFs but no one is going to convince me that T-Mobile or any other major carrier has any secret policy of paying off other carrier's ETFs.

I had a T-Mo rep from a corporate store say they might be able to pay part of my ETF if I move to them, but it would prob be $50 or less. I certainly don't expect it tho, especially since I will make a lot more than AT&T's ETF on ebay for an unlocked 9700.
