WIFI no data no hotspot plan

I knwo you can browse the limited net over wifi with a wifi phone with no data or with no hotspot package as long as you "catch a wifi signal" but I need to clear up something.

I was told way back by Tmobile no money charges but also told it uses my minutes up(with no hotspot 9.99plan).

Is this stil correct or has it changed around this past year.

I'm talking about BROWSING the net not talking.
Browsing in an active hotspot with no plan(data, hotspot) whatsoever.
Does it cost me minutes

Browsing the Internet while on WiFi with no hotspot@home package does not subtract from your minutes. Making calls over UMA(WiFi) will subtract from your minutes. hotspot@home only deals with voice, if you subscribe to hotspot@home it just gives you unlimited calling while on UMA(Any WiFi network), but as soon as you leave any such WiFi network it will go back to normal minutes. So browse away on WiFi.

How does UMA calling via WiFi (i.e, at home) subtract from your minutes? I thought the whole point of UMA was to minimize minute usage.

It subtracts if you don't have hotspot@home for like $10/month. It's TMO's way of making you pay more money. You add it to a plan that you figure you'll be on WiFi most of the time, it works for any WiFi network. You can make UMA calls without H@H but yes it will subtract and show up on your bill as a UMA call and right within normal minutes.

Really eh? That's kind of disappointing. UMA seems kinda pointless without H@H. I was thinking of getting an 8900 from Tmo--mostly for the UMA option--but now I will consider AT&T.

If you get a cheap plan and pick up H@H for cheap it shouldn't be that bad, ATT might force you for a data plan, TMO is starting that soon.

Not really because lots of buildings have great wifi but poor signal from the tower. It like getting extended coverage for free. But also for 10 bucks a month you can talk as much as you want on wifi without charges so it makes a great landline replacement if u got wifi at home.
As far as VOIP calling plans go its about as cheap as can be had.

I've had a Bold 9000 for years with full data, domestic text, and international text plan and loved it. I had my Bold unlocked before moving to Central America and local SIM cards down here work great for voice, but I cant get WiFi to work.

I can see networks, select them, and seem good to go, but when I try to launch browser, or facebook app I cant connect.

error msgs - "you do not have sufficient wireless coverage to login to facebook"

I guess my question is, should my WiFi work without even having a SIM card.

Is there perhaps some setting I need to change to get it going?

That is so true. My home does not have good reception so even tho I have unlimited minutes, using UMA esures that I get service and the calls are not dropped.

I thought TMO have a free wifi calling add-on?
