Default Why don't BB support HSPA+

why don't BB support HSPA+?

all android and even winmo and nokia phones do, but BB cant?

I love BB with a passion, but its becoming harder and harder to stay loyal when BB is starting to lack more and more features

Because it's not a majority market..think about it. T-Mobile USA's network won't be fully rolled out till then end of 2010. AT&T only just announced it on June 2nd and then after that they will be rolling out LTE.

Unless you live in Singapore, Austria, Hong Kong or Bulgaria or are on Bell in Canada..and a few other foreign countries. HSPA+ isn't that widespread. Aside from that, theoretical speeds and actual real world result speeds vary. Even the avg speed for a HTC EVO 4G is 2.5MB/s despite the advertised speeds of it being 5MB/s. Be realistic here 3G, HSPA+, WiMax...blah...blah..blah, it's all just marketing for stuff the carriers will never be able to deliver in mass quantity.

Because it lacks the hardware?

Very few cities are going to have HSPA+ right now...it takes a lot of time to roll that out. In all likelihood, you'll probably be ready for an upgrade by the time HSPA+ is deployed and tweaked in your area, and there will be many HSPA+ phones available then.

No phones have HSPA+ and RIM isn't worried about being on the cutting edge, they'd prefer to be dull and predictable. It's not like you would be able to notice HSPA+ over a good 3.6Mbps connection on the 9700.

according to some people, tmo will be lighting up hspa+ in LA, my market, and will cover over 75 million by the end of june of this year.

I am under the impression that some android phones can support HSPA+ on tmo.

I guess im just disappointed at RIM for jumping on, because then i would be able to enjoy 4g like speeds very soon.

That may be true and we'd love the chance to test that theory. It would be nice if we could hit over 3Mb to max out our current hardware instead of our 1Mb we currently live with.

that would make sense since the 9700 does not support HSPA+, while most android phones get to enjoy 21mbps speeds.

I have a Storm2, My sister has the Bold 9700 (both on the same carrier, two seperate networks), capable of up to 3.6mbps. Literally zero difference in browser speeds.

There is no phone out there pulling down 21mbps. They don't make small enough processors to handle those kinds of speeds yet. But nice try.

and the 9700 supports HSPA+, just not to it's full potential. Despite 3.6, it still works on HSPA+ networks, ie, it supports it.

Er, Telus is also HSPA+. They build the towers, Bell connects them. Bellus!
