Thumbs down What happened to T-Mobile being inexpensive?

"There has been quite a bit of movement recently as far as T-Mobile’s plans are concerned and if you haven’t been keeping your eye on the ball, you probably missed something. For the most part, T-Mo has added plans and options that are pretty favorable for subscribers but word just came in from one of our ninjas regarding a few more upcoming changes some might not be happy about. The first concerns smartphone users: We know that all you BGR fans out there obviously have data plans but there are plenty of people who enjoy the enhanced functionality of a smartphone who haven’t yet embraced mobile data services. Unfortunately, those people are in for a bit of a disappointment — some time in June T-Mobile will begin requiring that all smartphones (new activations / upgrades) have a data plan. This new requirement will not apply to the BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry Pearl Flip, Samsung Behold or Samsung Memoir. Next up, messaging addicts: Also beginning some time in June, T-Mobile’s Unlimited Domestic Messages for Families will jump from $19.95 per month to $24.99 per month. It’s still a pretty sweet deal of course, just not quite as sweet as it used to be."

hum... i wonder if people wouldn't alter their phones network settings to bypass the "web blocker" if tmobile wouldn't have done this.

And what is the point of having a Smart Phone if you can't use it as it's meant to be used. To say look at me? to show off?... oh well i have the 19.99 unlimited data package and the 19.99 FMess plan. both grandfathered in....

Yeah I made the mistake once of removing my data plan and adding it again(thinking it would refresh my connection) and I now pay 24.99 for data -__-

24.99 is just like if you had the 19.99 plan and 400 text message plan. It is not a big deal....

I use my smartphone as a PDA and don't need the internet very much. I find the internet on a Pearl is pretty lame anyway.

I think T-mobile is still very inexpensive. If I had verizon I would be paying $115 a month. If I had AT&T I would be paying $110 a month. With T-mobile I am paying $80/mo.

I'm currently employed with T-Mobile and I haven't heard anything about the prices getting higher. I know that new things are in the works (can't say specifically), but in a recent meeting nothing consisting of higher fees was ever discussed. I can't say that it will never happen as nobody ever knows that, but I do know that at this point in time, mandatory data hasn't been mentioned.

I know they don't let the 19.99 happen anymore, its just 24.99 (BB Data plan + 400 text messages) With that said, it does cost more, BUT most people that have data, have a text plan as well, so it really is no difference in TMO's services/prices.

Wow...if that's true, it's awful...they really made me sour a couple of months ago when I removed my $19.99 unlimited email/data/text plan and tried to add it back LITERALLY four minutes later only to find out the price had jumped to $24.99. Granted it is still better than the split $24.99/$34.99 email/text/web plans they are flinging around now, but I just felt so cheated at the time. I asked the CSR if she would be willing to give it to me at the old price since I have been a loyal customer with 2 lines for the past 6 years...she flatly refused and I politely hung up.

On a brighter note, someone in another thread threw out that they had recently been able to get the $19.99 family unlimited messaging for $9.99. Apparently, it was a promo that T-Mo had run a couple of years ago when the line of family plans was being introduced, but the poster said they were able to get it by calling T-Mo and asking for a rep in retentions. I decided to try my luck today, and at first the regular CSR tried to play me like he didn't know what I was talking about ...I told him to just add the plan to my account and see if it would work, and lo and behold...I now have family unlimited texting for $9.99.

Sooo...if price jumps are imminent, now would be a good time to leverage loyalty to get cheaper pricing on your plans...

Yeah, I'm happy to pay $60/month for my plan vs other people who pay AT&T or Verizon $100+ for the same plan...

No complaints from me!!
