Why do you need a different 2nd device? You're asking on a BB board, not sure what kind of help you're going to get here...

My G/F has the BB, and I have an 8350i that cannot tether. So I need a device that can tether. Thought I might get something other than another BB.

Why not get another BB Flip for yourself? You said your gf has one. Then you can BBM and no more SMS.

Lots of WinMo devices can tether as well.

T-Mobile Dash, Wing, possibly the Shadow, and I'm pretty sure that the HTC G1 does it as well.

I have the TMO G1, if you go to June Fabrics PDA Technology Group you cna download a program for your laptop, that will setup the G1 to tether, and its all free and you dont have to root the phone. Im posting this from my laptop that is tethered to my G1, it is working great. Im on TMO 3G, and according to my laptop is getting 2.4 mbps, which isnt that fastest, but works great, so im happy.

I've tethered with most of the mobile internet capable LG "dumb phones" I've had over the past 10 years. If a phone doesn't support it out of the box, you can use something like FutureDial with the appropriate USB cable to tether.

That being said, this is my first BB and it tethers easiest of the phones I've owned.
