Default Warranty Replacement - Would this work?

I'm curious if this would work...

So I have a Pearl and I bought a Curve off ebay.

Lets say I go to my tmobile online and change my phone to the curve.
If I happen to have a problem with my curve, do you think if I call that they will replace it under "warranty" if its less than a year? Or can they see from their end that I added the curve myself and it wasn't purchased form tmo?

I doubt it'll work...but just a thought!

No it won't because those warranties are product specific. Your info is fixed in their database

not true i had T Mo and got a pearl from a friend put my sim card into pearl, then i called and my new phone was updated in system. I already had insurance on old phone prior to the switch. I then waited a few days called CS and asked them about policy on warranties/insurance, they gave me run down and everything was in reference to my pearl not my original phone that was covered. A month or so went by and i had an issue with my pearl so i went to the T Mo store and the sales rep was going to replace my pearl under warranty not insurance. The issue was fixed from a software upgrade so i didn't need a replacement.

The PIN and other information is already in the system for the berry. Also, be careful of the potential for insurance fraud. You never know. You might get away with it. Personally, I would not risk it. I would definitely get the insurance plan.

I didn't say anything just acted like it i bought this phone myself, but it was still under warranty from when my friend bought phone so maybe that is why it worked for me, Like i said i never got a new phone that way but they were about to give me one if the upgrade didn't work.

The warranty department checks if the phone was used on t-mobile network and I would wait until it autoupdates the model on mytmobile.com. When it auto updates, that means their system is updated.

I bought a pearl on ebay and had issues and was told that since it was not bought in a tmo store or tmo online I could only turn it into insurance

If you get a phone from a friend and put your sim in and expect there to be a warrenty applied magically, your in for a rude awakening. If your imei is pulled up, it will most def say "warrenty not verified" however tmobile will take the phone back, but expect a 100$ charge on your phonebill for it being out of warrenty.
