Default Warranty question

I bought my T-Mobile Bold 9700 through ebay back in April. I know the device hasn't been out for a year so I'm sure the manufacturer warranty should be valid. But my question is, since I didn't buy the phone through T-Mobile myself does that mean that I am not covered by the warranty?

I would think so because it is in its one year warranty. Verizon did this when my Storm 2 died even though I bought it on eBay and was using it on T-Mobile.

Hope this Helps

Ya know, I've always wondered how that works, never had to go through with it, but I'll be buying a 9100 soon and unlocking it to tmob, but my biggest fear is getting one that may have some issues with it or something and I can't exchange it. That would suck.

When you buy a phone from a source other than a T-Mobile source, the warranty does NOT transfer. You would need to get the insurance plan on your phone if you want any sort of protection. Also, when you have insurance, there is a deductible if you have to replace your phone.

Usually when I buy phonečs through ebay, I always go for squaretrade warranties cause it is usually worth it. And Jedi2dope is correct manufacturer warranty does not transfer therefore you're SOL.

The manufacturer warranty doesn't transfer over if you buy from some place other than T-Mobile.

I recommend SquareTrade if you want to get insurance. It covers all defects and accidental (your fault) damage...just not lost/stolen phones.

Sometimes the carrier will honor the warranty or refer you directly to RIM.

The official answer is "it depends". If the BB was purchased new, or was an unused replacement device (Refurb from a warranty exchange) it should automatically register the warranty under your phone number. If it was used first, TMO will not honor the manufacturer's warranty unless you have their $1.99 or $5.99 handset protection on your account. If it is used and you do not have either of those features, RIM may honor the warranty themselves, but this would require you to send the phone first and use something different while they inspect/repair it.
