Default Value plans, contract, merger

If the merger with ATT goes through, and you sign up with the new value unlimited plans, will you be able to keep this plan? Also, what will happen to the coverage being they use 2 different frequencies? Radio Shack says its going to increase the coverage to more than Verizon

AT&T keeps saying that they will keep any contracted customer on the same rate plan that they have. As you know the Value Plan is a 2 year contract plan so you should be safe, for a little while at least.
As far as the phone, they also said that the phones will work as well....obviously you will have to take all of this with a grain of salt coming from AT&T and all

What about the coverage overall? Will it get bigger than Verizon like Radio Shack is saying???

ATT and Tmo use the majority of the same towers already ctfu. So I'm sure overall nationwide coverage won't improve til 2014 and not by much unless they are planning on putting up more towers. Doubt it.

It just occurred to me. I use a 9700, and the AT&T version is different from TMO's re: 3G signal. IF the deal goes through, all of us using a 9700 from TMO might be required to get a new BB that works with AT&T's 3G, right? At which price? Full retail, new customer price? Would this require a new contract then, leaving my grandfathered plan dead?

Yeah, you'll eventually need a new BlackBerry because they will be using T-Mobile's AWS band for LTE. I've read that AT&T will supply a "comparable" phone for free once your phone is unusable.

They'll most likely give us whatever low-end Blackberry that's out there at that time, perhaps a Curve or a low-end Android phone. No thanks. I'll probably jump ship before that happens. We just gotta wait and see.

I'm going to switch from Sprint to T-Mobile probably as soon as the new phones drop to get in before the merger. Sprint is adding too many fees, and my Family plan will be more expensive than either Verizon or AT&T at that time, so I'm going to save some money and try to get in before the merger (actually hope it falls through and someone else gets to buy them).
