Default Using unlocked berry on t-mobile.....

So, This may should go into another forum i'm not really sure. I thought this may be the best place to ask though. I have a friend who is wanting to get a storm or storm2 and stay on tmobile, I know it can be unlocked and used etc, but don't know anybody who has done this and I was hoping for some information from the masses......

Can this use the same number as her existing t-mobile phone?
Just add the BIS plan on to the cost per month?
How's the speeds on the unlocked berry's compared to normal 3G service on VZ or T-mobile standard service etc??
What's the process / how does one go about getting this setup once the unlocked berry is "in hand"???

I bought a 9530 a few weeks ago and followed the instructions on the 9530 for T-Mobile. It worked okay but I had the EDGE going to edge issue at times. Updated the os to 5.0.0.419 yesterday and it's running great! You can try updating the os to 4.0.0.419 and see if it will just work as is. It might, let me know.

Unlock it (if not already unlocked) and put in your sim card. There's a few tweaks you have to do to get things working initially but please read the 9530 forums on this. Lots of people have done this, most are happy. Good luck.

Be aware when you unlock a Verizon bought storm or storm2 you void the 1 year replacement warranty from the manufacture. If you buy the phone direct from RIM unlocked you still have the warranty. I just found this out the hard way. I have a Verizon storm unlocked and on tmobile. Have fun its an adventure to get it working fully.

That's good info. I didn't realize that until I was on the phone with RIM support a while back trying to troubleshoot a Storm that wouldn't make GSM calls.
