Default Using an iPhone on T-Mobile

I apologize in advance for what I’m sure is a stupid question, but here goes. I recently won an iPhone but I have T-Mobile for my carrier and I’m fairly happy with the service. My BB 8900 is showing signs of wear so I was thinking of making a permanent switch. How difficult is it to unlock a an iPhone? And if I were able to unlock the phone to use on T-Mobile, would I have operational issues? Thanks!

You shouldn't have any issues. What iPhone do you have?

Just remember, when you unlock iPhone to use on T-Mobile, you won't get 3G, it'll be EDGE only. the iPhone doesn't have the bands necessary to use T-Mobile's 3G.

I suggest googling "redsn0w" and use that to unlock and jailbreak (if you want!). I used that when I used the iPhone EDGE and it worked for me.

Norris or myself could help you with this. I do them quite often. It isn't very difficult.

There's a program less difficult than redsn0w. It's literally a 5 step process. Two of the steps involve plugging in the phone and disconnecting it. Lol.

I wasn't aware of the 3g issues with T-Mobile, that's a big big bummer. If that's the case I might as well stick with the Blackberry as I was considering upgrading to a 9700. Thanks for the help, you saved me a lot of headaches!!

I was thinking about buying an iphone to use on T-Mobile...besides the 3G issue, is there any other cons I should be concerned about?

ATT's 3G frequency differs from T-Mobile, therefore there isn't any time of backward compatibility. Other than the lack of 3G, the iPhone functions the way it should.

There are some occasional minor annoyances. Blackra1n has supposedly caused wifi connectivity issues in some devices, and Iphones in general will sometimes delete the APN settings that have been input. The APN is an easy fix, and the wifi issues are not common and will go away with a few toggles of the setting.

Redsn0w works great, but is only does unlocking through 3.0.1 on 3G and 3GS models.

I was going to do the same thing. I had one on AT&T and could not get coverage at my place. I was going to get a new one and hook it up to T-mobile. Can you unlock and use a 3G or 3GS?
