Default Upgrading to 9780, timing, source?

OK, there are 2 9700s and an 8900 in the Glockshooter Household TMobile Blackberry stable. I am going to upgrade the 8900 to a 9780. I went in on the 17th, no dice. "No shipments until we clear the 9700 stock." I asked them to check other local stores. They found exactly one white 9780. I said I would rather have the black. They suggested ordering direct. I tried, and found them backordered.

So now I am faced with the dilemma of the best way to do this. I am considering waiting for Black Friday. Another issue is that one of the in store reps said they may be able to get me a better deal with some sort of test promo called "better than new." I don't know about this, or whether it would apply only to in store purchase.

So, any advice?

Thanks!

I would just keep checking locations. I found one after calling 5 stores. Got it same day and cheaper then I would've by ordering over the phone/online.

I went into the retail store and asked if they had any in stock for upgrade. The sales rep was extremely helpful, and said they only had 5 in stock. So needless to say, I jumped on it. I asked if she could shed any light on Black Friday, and she said she didn't know what the promo was as of yet. I asked if they could price match if I bought today if there happens to be some super deal on BF. She said yes with the 14 day return policy.

Turns out that going into the retail store was about 25 bucks cheaper than doing the upgrade online. Plus she filled out my rebate form. I'm planning on paying her a visit and giving her a Starbucks gift card out of appreciation

If you're in a "better than new" test market, it's worth your time to wait. I wish my area was one of the test markets. I can't give the details yet, but the promo he mentioned will be good for existing customers.

How can we find out if we are in one of said test markets?

Can you now disclose what the "Better Than New" test promo is? I'm eligible for full upgrade on my phone, though the 9780 is still $104 on my.t-mobile.com with all the discounts applied. Wondering if Chicago is even a test market.

I bought the 9780 for $129 a few days before before Black Friday (today). They told me IF there was a sale I could come back and have my account credited (14 day return policy, yada yada). The Black Friday sale was BOGO 2 line upgrade, which would not be good for me, so I did not go back.

Better than new turned out to be weak once I got the straight story. IF you are in a test market (I am) and IF you haven't upgraded in like 3 or 4 years (Ummm...) then you get a price that is lower than you would if you were a new customer.
