Default Upgrades should be every 12 months instead of 24 months for everyone

At the rate phones come out nowadays, I think carriers should allow everyone (not just primary account holders) to upgrade their handsets once every 12 months. 2 years is too long for devices nowadays. The lifespan of most phones is around a year now until support for them is dropped. It would be better for business as well imo.

Thoughts?

Even at a higher upgrade price, I'd be happy to have a 1 year contract.

Sent from my VZW Thunderbolt.

Sounds good to me. I've been with my 9700 for about 22 months now and I've been itching for another smartphone BUT I don't want to be locked to another two year contract with TMO since I don't know that fate of this merger. I can add up to two more lines plus my contract expires 12/30/2011 for a total of three available. So that means, three new phones. I like the idea of 12 month contracts though.

The carriers in Canada have 3-year contracts, so it isn't as bad for those who are in the US.

Damn forgot about that. In this day and age with all these new phones coming out it would be hard for me to stick with the same phone for that long. It would be different if I had a cheap flip phone that I used for just calls and texts.

I couldn't imagine having to survive that long. D:, I've been spoiled from my yearly upgrades from Sprint.

Doesn't T-Mo still do partial upgrade pricing? I haven't been on contract for awhile so I don't know if this is still the case.

The merger doesn't bother me. If it does happen, I think we'll be allowed to be grandfathered in our current plans. If not, we should be allowed to leave if we want. Either way, coverage is good with all 4 major carriers where I live so my only concern is price.
