Default Upgraded T-mobile Plan on the Second line for 9700 to Use with First Line

Ok guys, I have two lines. Both out of contract. One is mine, one is my mothers. I wanted to get the new bb so I upgraded the plan on my mothers since she will be staying with Tmobile. I wanted to keep mine open in case I wanna switch carriers in the future.

I already have a blackberry so I just switched my sim card out of mine and put it into the new one I got everything to work.

Now when I go to my tmobile account, I have BB internet plan set up on my mothers line, the line I upgrade on, even though she uses a regular old nokia brick phone. and monthly price shows an increase of 30 bucks or so. Is there any way to take this off???

You would have to call them and tell them you got it for your line. Even that might not work. My gf did something similar with her kids line and a mytouch 3g last fall. We had to work with Tmobile for a couple days before they were able to take the data off the kid's line. I'm sure a TMO rep could post here with the official stance but I think whatever line is upgraded is expected to carry the required data even if it isn't used on that line.

So you say, you upgraded the phone to get a new Blackberry at a discount or no charge (good deal!). TM has subsidized that phone and gave you a special price. They asked you to accept a BB plan for a specified plan for a minimum period so that you would pay off the phone subsidy. Check your new contract and determine what the penalty is for removing the new plan.

As far as switching the BB service from one line to another, that is no problem, just so long as you keep the BB service on that line for the minimum contract period. TM CS will take care of that for you very soon. Then, you go to the TM website, login to your account, and enter the BB email setup data for the line the BB will be used on.

In the future, if you want to get a new phone and do not want to get a new contract you can purchase an unlocked phone from many retail outlets (or ebay ...etc), other than TM. TM will give you non-contract BB service.

OK just so everyone knows, the big thing in wireless carriers nowadays in data devices. Now, with almost every carrier, if you purchase a data device, you have to take a data plan. This is NOT optional and tmo follows the same principle.

Now, in your situation, you upgraded you mommy's account to get yourself a phone. When you upgrade to a data phone, we have to attach a REQUIRED data feature to the line of service on which you do an upgrade, in this case, your mother's. This data feature cannot be swapped OFFICIALLY, you must use it on the same line of service you have upgraded. This is the official stance and what every rep must tell you since this is the policy. Only supervisors can remove or swap Required Web features. You will have to get really lucky and get a rep on the phone who is either too generous, too ill informed or dumb enough to over rule the policy and swap this data feature for you. Doing this can result in the rep being penalized or getting fired, not that it will matter to the end user: YOU.

Call CS and try, try and try some more. Good luck.

PS: The data feature is part of your contract and stays there till the end of your contract. It can only be changed to a different data feature for a different class of device (ex. android, win mo, etc.).

In other words, you're stuck paying the BB data portion on your mommy's line for the remainder of the contract.

I did the same thing back in late December of 2009 when I wanted the 9700. No line of out my five lines qualified for a full upgrade but my mommy's line was seven months away for a full upgrade. The CS rep hooked me up because my 8320 was giving me problems. So I use my mommy's line (she has a Samsung dumbphone) to get my 9700 with a full discount. BB data is mandatory with my 9700 now. Whatever she did within those computers didn't add the BB data plan on my mommy's line. Perhaps I was lucky enough or maybe CS was in a good mood because I got a full discount seven months before my mommy's contract was terminated. Of course she spoke to someone higher in the ladder to get me that 9700. I am grateful that she helped me out.

Well did you get it through tmo or a 3rd party retailer? I got an upgrade from another line through 3rd party and was able to switch over- meaning take off data b/c the rep said I was lucky it didn't say req on the line lol. Now I don't know if this can happen again as I didn't try. Btw, I called w/in 1 hour of buying it.

You shouldn't be stuck paying the data plan on your mother's line. My family and I did a big BB swap in April. Mom bought a 9700. She thought she was getting an 8900 (the same phone I had) but the rep on teh phone apparently didn't know Tmo didn't carry it anymore so they sent her the 9700. Well she gave that to me. My dad used his line to upgrade to an 8520 which she took. my dad and I are on the same family plan. He is not paying for any data plan even though he upgraded on his line. I think they simply told the people a the store (they did the 8250 upgrade in store) what they were doing and they took care of it. I gave my 8900 to my dad since he wanted a BB so badly, but he barely even remembers to turn his phone on when he's out so he doesn't need a data plan (Or a BB for that matter but try telling a stubborn old man that).
