Default upgrade question

I have four lines on my account. My line (with my 8900) is not eligible for an upgrade, but my husband and children's lines are. Could I use one of their lines to get an upgrade price for when the 9700 comes out and just swap my sim card in? Don't mean to ask the obvious and please don't flame me even if it is, but I don't know how tmo handles this type of upgrade scenario.

You can do that, but the only problem is tmo requires data plans with smart phones. They make you add a bb data plan to the line you're upgrading.

Now last time I did this they didnt require me to add a smart phone plan to the line I had. I had used my moms upgrade that she had available to get a new phone.

How do they enforce this? I know someone who was given an 8220 and has T-Mobile but doesn't have a data plan. If I have a basic voice/text plan without any data, and I buy or receive a Blackberry and insert my SIM card, are they going to physically stop me from using my phone or instantly add a data plan when I haven't authorised one?

I know tmobile requires a data plan to be added with the line. If you buy an 8900 off ebay and use it with your current tmobile line they will not require a data plan. The requirement is with new lines/contracts.

I was calling them yesterday about their new rate planes. Their more plus account can have unlimited talk, text and web and the family plan, and could cover 2 devices on that plan with BB service. I didn't go tis route because I've only been a customer 6 months and would have to pay ETF to switch. But I would call and talk to them abot what you want to do, they might have it.
