Default Upgrade from my dads line?

We have a family plan with 2 lines.

My Line: Unlimited Text, Talk (Not Eligible for upgrade)
Dad's Line: Talk (Eligible for upgrade)

Now I want to get a new phone with a data plan. I can't upgrade my line, but my dad's line is eligible for an upgrade. If I upgrade my dads line, he will have to get the data plan on his line. Which he does not want. I want to use his upgrade on my line. Is there any way to do this?

Its not like AT&T, when you want to upgrade, you can get the phone but the data won't be on your line but your dad's.

You'll get the phone and data on YOUR specific line.
He'll just get his contact extended, that's it. He won't get a data add-on because he won't have the new device.

No, that is what AT&T does, you can't do that on T-Mobile.
californiablackberry, I am with T-Mo, you're with Verizon Sprint. Why give false info?

Really? I thought it was the same on most US carriers.
Well I'm glad Verizon is nice enough to let us do that. Sucks for everyone else though.
    Learned something new today, yay.

Went to few T mobile stores and even called.

Answer: No, The only option is to have data on both phones which I do not want. So I will be paying double for data, when I will only be using it on one phone.
