| | Upgrade to 9780 or use 9800 on Tmo?
I need advice guys.
My contract is up for renewal soon. I'm currently using the 8900 on Tmo. I've had my eye on the torch for a while because I really, really want a full screen BB. However, I'm not ready to jump ship to at and t quite yet.
Is it advisable to shell out the cash for a 9800, unlock and use it on Tmo? How many of you are doing that on here? Does tmo support the phone adequately with mms and so on?
Or should I just suck it up and get the 9780? Not really excited about this phone to be honest. I really want a touchscreen.
I've considered android and iphone and all that, but I can't leave BBM!
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this.
edited for spelling errors.

You can use the torch on TMO, but you will not be able to use 3G/4G on TMO because it is an ATT phone and they have different bandwidths.

T-Mobile has different 3G bands than AT&T. If you really want the Torch, I would say change carriers to truly enjoy the phone at 3G speeds. One thing that I do warn is that the battery life on touch screen phones suck horribly compared to what you are used to. I wanted the Torch but jumped the gun too early and got myself a Storm 2. The Touch screen is awsome for video playback and web browsing but I always needed to be by a charger, even when I was not using 3G. I find myself to be more of a text person and I have used the 9700 before and found myself regretting getting the Storm. I would trade in screen size for more battery life and physical keyboard. I know the Torch does come with a keyboard but are you willing to commit to a 2 year contract with ATT? I wouldn't recommend buying a Torch at full price + unlocking to use at 2G speeds and have to worry about service book issues that some Torch and Storm2 users are experiencing with T-Mobile.

The 9780 is a monster and would serve you well. If your willing to wait until 1Q 2011, The death star's grip on the torch is only 6 months, which puts in the march/april range. It will then go TMO.

I don't know how you can't like a 9780, the 9700 is still a beast.
If you don't want to be on contract, go on ebay and get a 9700 and load up os6....can be had for a couple hundred bucks and runs well on .358, some mild bugs, nothing to worry much about and each leak gets better. Eventually there will be an official OS6 for it.
Can always sell it for practically what you spent if you don't like it.
Me, if I had the money, I would get a 9780, but I am not much for TS phones, hence why I recommend the other phones and didn't care for the physical KB on the 9800....I probably could get used to it though.
Good luck!

no 3g on a torch...unless you can live with that.

As many people are saying, you won't have 3G. I'd like to own a Torch myself, but I'm impartial to my 9700. I love the device. I'd consider the 9780 if I were you. If you're happy with T-Mobile, then stay with the company and upgrade to the 9780. If you've liked the 8900, then you know the 9780 is a great move. The only thing you'd get with the Torch is the touch screen with a larger viewing space. Otherwise, it's quite similar to the 9780.

I was able to fix the broken screen on my 8900 so I can wait a couple of months to make a decision. I really don't want to leave Tmo, if the torch will come then I have no problem!

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | It's not that I don't like the 9780, I just really want a full screen/ TS phone now. I'm tired of looking at small screens.

I don't mind the battery issue so much, but I'm not sure I'd go to ATT just for a phone.
I don't mind unlocking a torch for ATT, I'll just get another phone from Tmo on contract and sell it to make up the cash.
However, without 3G, what's the point? I hope Tmo gets the torch sometime soon, I hear it's a possibility for next year.
