Default Unlimited Domestic Messaging

On T-Mobile's site, it says unlimited domestic messaging includes IMing but I read somewhere that IMing uses a DATA PLAN. I would just like to get a straight answer as to whether I can IM with just the UDM plan and not be charged with data fees. Thanks!

I am not 100% sure but I think that's if you use the messengers that come on the device. The Tmo ones use text messaging instead of data.

And that includes Windows Live Messenger right? Sorry for asking, I know this info is probably on their site, I just want to get this confirmed.

Not 100%, but I'm pretty sure the ones that come with the BlackBerry, like the standalone AIM, Windows Live, etc messengers all use data.

There's an app called OZ Instant Messenger, which comes with the T-Mobile software if you update your BB from their site that uses your SMS to send messages, but I've had trouble finding that app for free elsewhere and only got it from the TMO software upgrade.

The IM Application from T-Mobile uses text.

The IM Applications from RIM use data.

Prior to having a BlackBerry, I used Yahoo and MSN messenger with the unlimited domestic text plan and was never charged anything additional.
I believe it's still true today, providing you just use the regular messengers and not the fancy trillian-like apps you can buy now.

I thought there was a thread the other day about this and it was confirmed that T-mobile wording on the issue is misleading, and that people use AIM all the time with no SMS being used.
