Interesting question. Don't know the answer but can tell you that UMA is exceptionally cool. Can't tell you what a difference it's made for me as a T-Mobile USA customer.

Go to www (dot) umatoday (dot) com.

You will find all carriers who support UMA there.

GREAT WEBSITE! Thanks for the reference.

Site shows that T-Mobile UMA is only in the USA and the UMA operator in the UK is Orange.

I like that site. It has a lot of information about UMA and the direction of the wireless world.

Where I work, we are looking more at UMA because it can help in reducing international roaming costs which are extremely high.

The reason you see UMA with T-Mobile US is because they have no infrastructure in the US like the other 3 main carriers do. The other carriers all provide some sort of land line service and it would only hurt them to allow UMA on their devices. T-Mobile is riding the broadband lines and decreasing their tower usage - pretty smart business.

That kind of Luddite thinking is what sinks a lot of businesses. You can't hold on to tired paradigms and expect to blaze new trails. In the long term, the telecon traffic that travels through the "cloud" is going to overtake the traffic that rides on copper. It's only a matter of time.

I remember when my company started lighting up our headquarter offices with WiFi and the amazing connections that suddenly became possible in areas that never before allowed mobile communications because of limited or no cell connectivity.

T-Mobile is a pretty amazing company.
