Default UMA not working with school network

As the title implies, a friend has a pearl 8120 w/ wifi she got because t mobile lost service down at school where we are. Rather than having her entire family change service she got a UMA enable pearl, but we cannot get UMA to work with our school network. UMA works with some of the private wireless networks around campus but when we switch to the school network it has UMA error W006.1. I have read on another forum that this can be caused by connecting to a network that uses Web redirection and the phone cannot connect to such a network. I'm think this is the problem because our school does require such a login, but I still thought I would ask everyone on here because w/o this forum I would have ZERO knowledge about BB as it is......so any ideas?

Certain networks require validation every time you connect. What you can do to test is when she gets in range of the network, connect to the wifi, then open the browser and go to a page. This should bring up the authorization page for network access. Once you load this page and accept their terms, you should be able to have UMA access.

If this does not fix it, I'm not sure.

I think some school networks are just weird and may block some activity that would affect things like UMA.

I can connect to wifi just fine on campus but it NEVER goes to UMA.

UMA requires VPN Passthrough for IPSec. Most schools block that service.

My school is setup this way. You have to open up a page each time to get it to authorize the network. I have told it to access OSUWIRELESS but when I open up a page it doesn't bring up the authorization page. Any advice?

UNLV will prompt for a HotSpot login every time, but will switch to UMA once I login. As mentioned above, it probably depends on the specific network

Turns out that my schools IT dept won't allow voip, which I guess is what I need for UMA to work. So I can use it to browse the web after I login but can't make a call at all because my IT is dumb.

It's the same way for me at my campus. WiFi works great, but UMA doesn't work at all. It's just the way that some campuses are set up.
