Default UMA calls made from anywhere back to the US still local call!

Okay,

This is to put the debate to rest that everyone had doubts that tmobile would charge you roaming for using UMA Abroad to call home.

Here is a article directly from TMOBILE

http://www.t-mobile.com/Cms/Files/Pu...it%20Sheet.pdf

NOW LET'S PUT THIS SUBJECT TO REST!

Wait, let me just clarify here...

With the international calls (over Wi-Fi, when you're abroad and calling back home) "rated as though it was a call from the US to another country."

So...domestic calls made over wifi when abroad are charged as international calls?

I know we have talked about this subject many times. So far, I have yet got international roaming charges using UMA calling from overseas to US numbers. It has been this way for the last 3 years and I do hope it stays this way

I am not sure when this ad was released. This could be the old news.

That ad was for "government" accounts so it does not apply to any of us here.

With regards to UMA calls back to US while overseas. I believe the text they send everyone about two months ago is specific regarding calling international numbers "from US while on UMA". The more I read into that, the more I believe that is the case.

While it didn't apply to many of us but some people were getting free international calls to foreign numbers for free via UMA due to a glitch. This loophole has been fixed and I believe the texts they sent was talking about this loophole specifically.

I think UMA calls from abroad back to US will continue to be free as it is very hard for them to distinguish the call origin. None of the reps have a concrete answer to this because TMO is losing money on this feature so they are not giving any information to their reps to pass on to the customers. This will remain a "hush hush" hidden feature.

Thanks for clearing that up, myveggies. I believe you're right and this is the case.

I heard of someone being able to use a Samsung Katalyst or something to make international UMA calls (while in the US) for free and after that text was sent out, he was on the boards saying that it didn't work anymore.

I think calling home via UMA should be fine

There was a bug in the tmo system where if you were on UMA overseas and transitioned to a foreign network your calls were not charged for foreign roaming. This has been fixed and that is why that text went out. So now if you transition from wifi to a international carrier you will be charged.

I have been worried all week, and here is my experience:

I am currently in Mexico, and have been using UMA to call the US for over a year. I checked my bill today at T-Mobile.com, and all call are being billed as UMA calls, not roaming calls!!! Super Ecstatic about that!

Made 2 calls to Canada, and I was charged roaming for those (almost 50 bucks worth )

So no, noone is being charged while roaming on UMA and making a call back to the US!!!

Yeah makes sense...as long as the UMA calls are domestic (to back home) you should be ok.

My wife and I just came back from Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia. All UMA calls to the US were just considered part of my domestic minutes (for me that is free!)

This has been the case for several years at least and is one of the main reasons my wife and I are with TMO.

We were able to find free wifi virtually everyplace, including hotels where others had set up routers. In Prague, there was actually a TMO @home router within range and our phones hooked up automatically. That was a surprise to just see the phones on UMA. Thanks to whoever that was!
