Default UMA Calling

I'm a new BlackBerry user. Please bare with me. I know how pretentious and condescending people can be when it comes to n00bs asking questions.

So, here's the deal: To my understanding UMA calling means making a phone call over wifi without using your minutes. Is that correct? Regardless, is there a way I can turn it off? I have an unlimited everything plan so it's not like I need to save minutes. My internet connection at home sucks. I get booted offline a million times or it just runs too slow. That's the same with UMA calling. I drop way too many calls if I have the wifi on. I aslo drop calls if I'm on the phone and I step outside of my wireless range. So, I've had this phone for a week and a half and I only usde edge. I'd love to utilize wifi, but not at the expense of my calls. I used to literally turn wifi off before I made a xall or ignore a call so I can turn it off and then call them back.

All help is appreciated!

UMA will only provide unlimited calling if you have the Hotspot@home feature. If not, it will deduct minutes from you plan the same as a cell tower call would-so for a non-hotspot@home user, there is no difference other than slightly improved voice quality. If you don't want UMA to connect, go to the WiFi settings and change the priority for the connection.

On your BB go to the 'manage connections' icon and de-select wifi (or remove your home network altogether).

On the same Manage Connections screen as the Mobile Network and WiFi checkboxes, there is an option farther down for Mobile Network Options. Click that, and on the options panel that comes up, change Connection Preference to Mobile Network Only.
