UMA for Android
More or less confirmed. UMA app coming to "select Android devices"
This will most likely mean Vibrant and G2 for now. I'm just happy to have the option. As reported, UMA Lite will not support UMA-GSM handoffs, but we all know those fail 80% of the time anyway
The screenshot is from an internal training module, it appears.

T-Mobile to bundle Wi-Fi Calling app with future Android devices? -- Engadget
Engadget posted their version of the article as well.
Looks like buying the G2 is getting to be a better and better decision.

As long as I can make calls/texts/data over Wi-Fi, then I'm happy!

This means I can get service everywhere on campus with my Vibrant. Always good when you have classes in the dungeon

Nice. About time they allowed Android's to have this service.

I plan to get Android for my next phone (I'll still come to CB though) and this is really exciting.
Last time I checked, Android supports wifi networks with 802.11x security. BB doesn't so even though I can have UMA, I don't have access to it anywhere on campus with campus wifi because it won't connect with that security. With android and this app, now I can.
can't wait.

Kick-arse!!!
As much as I love my 9700 and loathing my Andriods I had as they were pretty much bricks, this excites me as there are a lot of new killer Andriod phones on the market.
Always wondered why they didn't offer this on the older ones, when BB did through T-Mobile.
This is good news come upgrade time, granted it won't be for awhile.

Hope someone notices this bump as I didn't want to create a new thread for this...
Does anyone here know if the Samsung Galaxy S3 has UMA? (or whatever the android name for it is). All answers are appreciated but would love to hear from UK users.
Basically my house is a really old stone building and you get no network signal unless you are pressed against a window, so UMA is a lifeline. Also thinking of jumping ship from BB in september when my contract is up. Would love to wait for the BB10 touchscreen, but I'm finding it difficult to live with my 9780's smaller screen, especially web browsing.
Thanks guys - 06-28-2012, 11:59 PM #9
IIRC, since WiFi calling is a software feature (therefore not exactly the same thing as UMA), you don't need much in terms of hardware capability beyond a certain grade of WiFi chip.
Keep in mind that the European version differs from the North American version. Also, the only UK carrier that supports UMA/WFC is Orange.
