UMA calling, which allows for an in-call handoff between WiFi and cell service, is a hardware feature not built into the 8910 (Torch) or 9900 (Bold). It is found in the T-Mobile USA branded 8320, 8520, 8900, 9300, 9360, 9700, & 9780*.
Instead a similar service called WiFi Calling will be included in a 7.1 updates for the T-Mobile USA branded 8910 (Torch) & 9900 (Bold). This is a software feature and will not (cannot) allow for in-call handoffs between WiFi and cell service. Instead a call will be disconnected and must be re-called when moving between WiFi Calling and cellular service.
Furthermore to take advantage of the new WiFi Calling it appears the account may require a E911 address be registered with T-Mobile USA before the WiFi Calling service will be enabled. If this is true or not will only be known when T-Mobile USA officially releases (and thus supports) the 7.1 updates for their devices, apparently Real Soon Now.
*There are handsets from other carriers that also support UMA calling but they are hardcoded to those carrier's UMA servers and thus will not easily work on T-Mobile's network.
