Question Is this true ???

I have a FlexPay individual unlimited everything plan and I wanted to switch to new family unlimited everything plan, which also means I wanted to add an additional line to my existing account.
So, I called T-Mobile customer service and told them what I want.
After speaking to two different customer reps, they finally told me that they can't issue a new number of the same area code I currently have (it is a 212 Manhattan land line area code), that's why in order to add another brand new number to my existing line they need to change my number.
Of course, I said "NO!"... So, here is my question: Is this true that all the members of the same family plan has to have the same area codes?
In other words, let's say husband and wife both have to have same area codes if they share the same family plan???
Do you know anybody who has a family plan and that particular family plan's members have same area codes or different???
Please help!!!
Thank you in advance.

On Flexpay all numbers must be from the same area code. This doesn't apply to regular accounts.

Thank you for the quick reply.
So, what is the logic behind it?
What I should do now? (in order to get a second line w/o changing my number and cheapest way possible?)
Also, if the same area code is no longer exist, why should I worry about it, it is not my problem, right?

I don't know that there's any logic behind it, heh. I do know that the billing system won't allow different area codes. The one thing you can try is activating a prepaid AT&T SIM card with the area code you want, then try and port the number. That used to be the way to get around it. Don't know if it still works.

I think that it's stupid that they need to be the same area code. Check this out, I have a regular account that I established back in NYC. I have five lines on my account but I have four different area codes, three from NYC and one from Pennsylvania.

Yeah, porting from AT&T to T-Mo FlexPay works. I did the same last year.

For regular accounts there is no restriction, but for FlexPay they always give you hard time. Aholes.
