Exclamation Tmobile Unlimited Data Plan!

A word to anyone currently on the old $35/mo unlimited data and text plan: If you plan to upgrade to the new Bold 9900 as I did, Tmobile will try their damnedest to force you to switch from this plan, which theoretically has unlimited high speed data, to one of their new tiered high speed data plans. I was told in two separate Tmobile stores that I COULD NOT UPGRADE without switching off my grandfathered unlimited talk, text and web plan. I knew this was BS and left both stores without upgrading. After an hour on the phone with Tmobile Customer Care reps, insinuating possible legal action, I was eventually told that the store reps could not in fact force me to change my rate plan to upgrade to a new phone and that perhaps they were pushing me so hard to switch from this plan due to some sort of sales bonus. I went back to one of the retail locations that initially lied to me armed with this knowledge and was AGAIN refused an upgrade without switching off my grandfathered unlimited data plan. It was only after I refused to leave the store and insisted they get someone from Tmobile Customer Care on the phone that they acquiesced and gave me my upgrade without switching me off my unlimited data plan!

The moral of this story? BUYER BEWARE! Their "You can"t upgrade without switching to one of our new CHEAPER data plans" routine is well polished. They will even go as far as to show you their computer screen which does not offer them a choice to upgrade you without switching data plans. They are apparently under heavy pressure from corporate to get people off the old unlimited data plan and onto one of their new tiered usage plans. Stick to your guns and insist on getting a Tmobile Customer Care rep on the phone and they will eventually cave in and upgrade you without switching you off your unlimited data plan.

If you have already been a victim of this sleight of hand, call Tmobile Customer Care ASAP and plead your case to be switched back to your old grandfathered unlimited data plan. A store rep forcing you to switch by lying about his ability to upgrade you without the switch can easily be construed as fraud!

I was just on the phone with a rep who encouraged me to keep my plan so that I can keep my $19.99 unlimited bb plan (and a few other features) (I actually didn't want to change, my mom did). Not all reps are like that.

OP why did you bother to have a store take care of the matter?
I never go to a store except to sign paperwork sent to them by TM phone service or warranty repairs.
When having a problem with a phone rep then just ask to speak with their supervisor.
The rep can NOT require you to default a Grandfathered plan.

Regarding the new unlimited plans, unless you are doing constant downloads then the standard unlimited is best for 95% of TM customers. The worst thing that could happen if you exceed monthly bandwidth allowance is that your service will be downgraded to EDGE for the balance of the service month.

so the $35 unlimited data/text had no cap? I was on that plan but then the rep switched me to the $20 Preferred blackberry plan. I was told that they are both the same and both had a cap of 5gb? but just that this was their rates now so it ended up cheaper.

Speed is phone dependant not plan dependant.
The only issue may be if you have a grandfather unlimited but use a huge amount of data.

Yellow: My $35/mo unltd text and web has no limitations on what speed I am provided since it came out years before Tmobile had 4G service. I believe that's why Tmobile and all the other carriers want people off these plans; you could eat up ALOT of their 4G bandwith! LOL!

Stefanhie: Yes, the old $35 unlimited text and web plan will give you UNLIMITED 4G high speed data as long as you have the new 4G Bold 9900. I have heard stories of carriers throttling back if your data usage is so high that it negatively affects their ability to serve other customers, but have yet to experience it myself.

Mandony: If you go thru customer care or online and have have to swap a malfunctioning phone out, you have to wait several days for a new one to come in the mail. Not really an option for me as my BlackBerrys are primarily used as business phones; that's why I always pick them up at a nearby store.

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone knows a BB plan/service that's cheap? I only need BB services, BBM in particular and I don't need text messaging and phone calls services. On t-mobile's website, they only offer $10/month BB services only if $30/month text messaging & phone calls or up is purchased but I don't need the services offered with that $30. How do I get this special request of BB services ONLY?

Thank you.
